That's pretty horrible. 2G is pretty frustrating unless you just want your push notifications.

Please drop me PM :(

I used my phones 3G to use the live chat support but my battery died so I gave up. Dont know what Eugene did but it worked.

That's very worrying. Best to check what is the case to avoid any unwanted billing. If MTN confirm you're on their APN then we need to investigate this urgently :(

Suspect it might be something with IOS 8 or the MTN network in Durban today.

I was getting a 66.xx IP address, and then restarting the phone a few times and toggling Data on/off it now seems to have gotten a 105.xxx IP on the Afrihost network. I wasn't on wifi either, that was turned off.

The 66.. IP also didn't belong to MTN, as I opened the MTNza app to check my balance. They don't allow you to access that info unless you on a MTN data connection, and it told me I wasn't at the time.

I just received an update for the Afrihost app. The icon has not been updated to a higher resolution one. Guess I'll have to wait some more.

If you updated your OS it could affect the APN. I don't know if running the new OS or beta versions messed with MTN's network settings. they might know better. I can log with MTN if this persists :(

It's the gold master iOS 8, so it's the one that will be coming out next week. I installed it on Monday and been using it since, so getting the email the morning means that something happened during the night that disconnected from the Afrihost APN.

I'm probably going to put the blame for this at MTN themselves, and probably not giving me an Afrihost IP.

Pleased to announce that I'm a Afrihost mobile customer again and getting lightning quick speeds on the local 3G network here.

That's pretty weird indeed. Which device are you testing on? Have you checked that you have no DNS or proxy settings on the device?

After a restart, everything is fine again .... bleg tech :P

@ AfriMan do you know of any network issues ? Having problems with 2 phones and a usb modem that worked brilliantly up untill yesterday afternoon. Phones signal is coming and going, usb wont connect in router but when plugged in to laptop struggles to get signal and connects eventually.

No issues on our end.
Are you still having troubles with this?

I'm getting capped every hour now! Have to switch off my connection, then on...

Yip still having issues... spoke to coverage team this morning and there is tower issues in the area. Been more than 24 hours now... getting a bit irritated now as even voice calls is a mission.

Got the simcard, finally. Coverage sucks. I'm right next to the CBD of Nelspruit and I have full Vodacom HSDPA & we even have LTE at some spots, CellC has full coverage. I'm sitting like a goof being frustrated because my phone can't connect properly and I've got 1 bar signal.

Cancellation inbound. Next up is Telkom Mobile.

That's not cool at all. If you're still being disconnected this frequently, we may need to look into this further. It might be spotty coverage in your area, but if you;re getting the capped page then it could also be an internal issue :(

If there is a tower issue, I don't know if it's an overnight solution, but I think MTN are pretty pro-active in sorting out their infrastructure in my experience. Please keep me updated so I can also follow up if you're not coming right :(

I'm sorry you're not getting the performance you expected. It obviously depends on where MTN's infrastructure is in relation to you. It might be worth logging a coverage query with them if you are meant to be in a strong 3G area or LTE and you are not getting the right service on your device :(
