I cannot seem to get internet working, network is always slow, it takes for ever to open a page. sometimes it works in the early morning, I liked the prices with Afrihost, but I have to say goodbye, congestion is bad now, in Samrand

What sort of signal are you currently getting on your device? Have you been able to test it in other areas?

I just sent you a PM with the MTN coverage form, can you please complete this form, then submit it, MTN will review the signal quality in your area and make the necessary changes.

My dad activated LTE the other day and we got around 16MB/s download and now its going slower and slower. Yesterday night it was 5MB/s its currently on 3MB/s.

We have an external antenna with 5 bar signal high up a pole pointing straigt at a tower that we thing is MTN. Any idea why its dipping so low?

There are quite a few things that can affect your currents speeds on your Mobile Data connection. Have your reset your connection at all? Do you know how many devices are connected to the LTE modem? Could there be anything downloading in the background?

One Desktop(lan cable) one laptop and one phone wireless. No have not reset the connection since the time we set it up.

Can you quickly restart the modem itself, then test the connection again please, you should see the performance increase somewhat.

Much better 10MB/s

Great! If your modem remains connected to a single session for longer than 24 hours, some level of deterioration of the quality of the connection occurs, restarting the modem often helps in getting speeds back up.

You could always take a drive to the tower and look on the warning signs and stuff at the gate. It would clearly indicate if it is a MTN tower and have a site number as well. If it is not then you sometimes find that the tower might be a Vodacom tower but MTN and Telkom Mobile share the tower with Vodacom so you will only see Vodacom's number on the gate but MTN does have infrastructure on that tower.

The towers usually are clearly branded, but as you mentioned they are sometimes shared in inter-connect agreements between the providers. I'm not sure that knowing the tower site number is very useful. It's better to let the coverage team come to your area and do their thing so they can look at all the angles and possibilities.

Hey Guys

We're running an awesome competition next week on our Answers site!

We'll be giving away prizes everyday for the best questions and answers and then a grand prize on Friday for the best overall question or answer.

Grand prize is a Mobile Wifi Device and Powerbank (Huawei E5730) worth R1,099! That's what we sell the device for, it's probably selling for a lot more in retail stores. But it supports up 10 devices over WiFi, has up to 16 hours of battery life and also supports 3G speeds up to 43.2Mbps.

Hope you guys will asking and answering away next week. Represent MyBB and all of that!

Awesome

PS I've added the link to my signature if you need to find it quickly

I see mention of awesome prizes but no mention of LtE device/dongle prizes. I'm sure you forgot something .

Well, we've been wanting to do some big prizes (like Apple Stuff) for a while, but we want to see more traffic going on. So this is just the beginning. Help us get the answers going, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some crazy prizes going.

I just want an unlimited supply of biltong :)

To anyone who is thinking of signing up for an Afrihost Plus+ Trial, be careful. I signed up on 27 November, and attempted to cancel before 25 December. I received an error which stated I should contact Afrihost. The agent I spoke to assured me that the cancellation had gone through.

Yesterday, I receive an invoice with an additional R60 for Simfy. When I contacted Afrihost again, the agent asked whether I'd seen the message about Simfy (something about a check box) when I cancelled Afrihost Plus+. Um... no, I just got an error message when I tried to cancel, no check box or anything.

Anyway, they did reverse the R60, so no complaints there, but I just thought I'd warn everyone, that you need to make sure that both Afrihost Plus+ and Simfy are cancelled when your trial expires to avoid being billed.

Is the data used to stream simfy unlimited or does it count toward your monthly cap as with any other data usage?
