If I can transfer you some airtime to do tests using the MTN apn can you do some comparative traceroutes for me between the MTN and Afrihost APN?
I'm happy to do this. I'll see if I can get around to it sometime tomorrow. Is it just a case of loading data and then using the MTN APN again? I have Fing installed, and can use that for some traceroutes. Otherwise I will just hotspot and use my PC.

Yes anything. Just switching between the apn even hotspot can work. Just want some comparative trace routes to see where the issue is. Our traffic graphs don't indicate an issue but we need to investigate and locate the issue to fix it and a trace route can help identify the cause.

Time for Afrihost to sit MTN down for a real talk.

giphy.gif

Can you reboot and check to see if you have better speeds now?

Our Noc team has logged it with MTN and advised that clients should reboot/toggle airplane mode and see of the speeds are still slow.

Browsing is sort of okay, but I'm getting packet loss and speed tests don't work nicely.

Hi @AfriNatic, not sure if this is your bag but could you assist with voicemail set up? Specifically I seem to keep defaulting to 'voicemail lite'.

You can call 136 press option 4 then press option 3

That will give you options to change from Voicemail Lite to Voicemail.

I had an opportunity to test this over the weekend, as a family member is on MTN. Zero issues, lightning fast for them, while I sit with a broken connection barely 2m away.

Afrihost has a serious problem on MTN's network.

It's been going on for a long time, but back in December 2020 / January 2021, I was literally the only one complaining :
(things started going wrong for me - in PE - around mid-Nov 2020)

The feedback I eventually got was that it was my coverage that was the issue, but it worked perfectly fine before mid-Nov.

Decided to leave Afrihost as a result, but maybe if more are affected at a time, then they bother doing something about it ... @AfriNatic at the time confirmed in one of his posts that the Telkom network was more robust (not necessarily the exact word used, I think), so if one can get Telkom LTE, my suggestion is to move to them, either directly, or even through Afrihost / Axxess etc. should be fine.

I had to use MTN APN as using the Afrihost one wasn't allowing my VPN to connect. I'll do some pings a bit later on and report back

We NAT Mobile connections which could be the issue.

I can request the NAT to be removed for you if you want.

It used to work prior with no issue, only when the recent issues started did I find that connectivity was a bit sporadic.

But let me get some ping results for you and then if it's something that can't be fixed, maybe we can try having NAT removed for my number to see if that helps.

We are investigating the issue with MTN. It seems to be very intermittent and some clients that complained earlier the week is fine now with more complaining now. We don't see a clear pastern and it makes it super hard to find the issue.

We have gone through our whole mobile routing checked every interface and we can not find the issue.

MTN has moved traffic around as of yesterday again and we are hoping that this was the fix but it seems not.

We have added a notice while we continue to investigate the issue.

Yap. Very intermittent. But very close to call it quits on Afrihost MTN. I thought it was loadshedding related. But currently no loadshedding. The difference is loadshedding both Afrihost MTN and MTN APN does not work (towers down). Intermittently Afrihost MTN not working but switching to MTN is fine.
