Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Hi,

This is a know issues with the Mybroadband speedtest app in dual sim phones. If you disable the Vodacom sim and re launch the app it would show MTN.
Okay, thanks.
Thought I might be missing something obvious with the setup.

I don't want to disable the VC SIM, though (but presume you mean it as a temp. measure).

I see now ; should've just stuck to the usual I used to use :

Is this significantly slower than the fixed LTE for a (specific) reason, or you think it just happens to be network congestion etc in the afternoon ?

I thought it would be closer to the 45 / 45 I generally get on fixed MTN / Afrihost in the B525.

The new SIM is in a Redmi 9T.

It would depend what LTE carriers the phone decides to use. Most of the time phones do tend to use Band 3, 1 or 8. They should aggregate them but not always.

Might be an issue wrt the app updating my fixed MTN LTE data, now that I've the mobile SIM as well.

The app says last updated at 8h04 am (ie short while ago).

However, looking at the fixed data usage it reflects NIL used so far on the 14th April ; but I did an estimated 500 MB from YT downloads this a.m. between 5 - 6 am.

The mobile data from today seems to be updating fine.

Please see screenshots ; I'll PM you with my A/c no again.

PS - I see that at 8h13 am the app now showing 0.1 GB fixed data used, but I'm sure it should show more, by now, especially as the updates are usually every few minutes. Morning,

So the usage of the FLTE sim actually got added 13th of April usage. This is a known issue where the session extends over multiple days and the usage updates get allocated on the incorrect date. I believe dev is aware of this.

It's the first time I think it's happened to mine, or at least the first time noticing something like this happening.

If I do downloads early on in the am (like today), I invariably check the data usage reflects on that date soon after finishing them - to now, always reflects on that same date from what I've seen.

Not disputing your comment that it happens the way you've described, but I thought it was the new mobile SIM causing interference !

Hopefully a fix for it soon ...

@AfriNatic - FYI at Afrihost to adjust this note you send out with new mobile SIMs provisioned, is, I tried these nos :

" Afrihost - You can opt-out from MTN promotional SMSes by dialing *130*601# and *130*603# "

.... but they don't work.

The reply in each case is that the "competition is inactive".

Instead, as a result of receiving this SMS today :

" Y'ello! Stand a chance to win up to R50,000 with Smart Challenge! Dial *686*7927# to join now! 1st day FREE, then R1.51/day. T&Cs apply. Opt out Dial? *135# "

..... you instead have to send a msg to *135# and in Prepaid - Content section, or something like that, go through 3 headings worth and in each of them are 3 sub-categories to opt out of their nonsense, individually.

Just so you know .... more to follow on another issue, but one I can work around - mainly a question at the end of it.

Hi,

Yes MTN has changed the Opt-out USSD strings. We still need to update those from our side.

The best menthod is using the MTN app to de-select all the promotional communications.

@AfriNatic - just got off the phone to Nedbank call centre (50 minutes) +querying them at a local branch this morning.

Since Thursday, been getting SMSs coming through to my phone of a Nedbank card's purchases ; I've not had any of their accounts in at least 35 years.

Originally thought it was through my Vodacom SIM, but after the very helpful Nedbank call centre agent spoke to the right people there, we worked out SMSs were coming through this newly provisioned MTN SIM number your dev did last week.

Haven't a clue how this can happen, but I seem to have a recycled MTN number in use by someone else.

The agent said they can request the other person's branch to stop sending out these purchase requests, so I no longer get them, but I said no as they probably rely on getting them.

I'm going to try simply blocking the MTN server number on my phone, so I don't see those messages again, but failing that, if I cancelled this prepaid SIM with you, bought a new one & went through the process again, is the offer of 1GB still available & how much longer will it last, if you know ?

None of this can answer the question - I'd think ? - that if I cancel this SIM, whether it will cancel the other person's use of it as well, so I'm apprehensive going that route .... and rather keep it going & try block the messages associated with it in future via Nedbank and MTN.

Thanks, though already done it the long way 'round & I've already more apps on the phone than I want !

Yes unfortunately MTN does recycle numbers if they are unused for 90 days.

If you cancel and signup for a new number the free 1GB will still apply. We don't have a date where the promo will end but for now it will still stay active for some time.

Thanks, just weary that cancelling this current SIM might affect this other person (in KZN somewhere, while I'm in PE), and if they load airtime / data to it I might also get to be the beneficiary !

The simcard will not be duplicated so they will no longer have access to the number in question. I'm pretty sure they will know about it.

Have opted out of everything in Consent Management, namely under :

Marketing
Digital Service
Mobile Financial Services

+ looked within the *135# menu for obvious things I might've missed to opt out of, yet still got another MTN SMS a short while ago with a rubbishing offer attached - does any adult ever sign up for this junk they offer ?

Might have to download their app after all, just to get 100% opted out, if that's even possible. Screenshot_2022-04-20-13-21-16-680_com.google.android.apps.messaging.jpg

Try the app. I did see that there are more options that you can de-select on the App.

Thanks.

Before doing that (really don't want the MTN app on the phone, though realise I can likely delete it after opting out of everything), I've blocked messages from "MTN" - there's no SMS service number attached to that SMS I received, so it's come via another source (?), other than the ones opted out of.

Will see if that stops everything.

I'm sure I get SMS's coming through the SIM in the router (for Afrihost fixed LTE) but obviously seldom see them as I don't log into it much now it's setup OK.

Plus, need to specifically go to the SMS part of router settings which I only do for Telkom LTE occasionally to send USSD's for data checks when can't access their website (multiple attempts always logging in + getting to data usage section + their apps are a real mess - cannot even get logged in using the 1 of 2 I've tried and the other is outdated last I looked).

@AfriNatic - some positive feedback. Signed up with a new SIM for mobile last night and from the time I sent the USSD code through to register the SIM on your network, it took only 20 minutes for it to be provisioned.

Much quicker than the 2 days odd it took for the 1st SIM, but that was during the week, so that's probably the main reason for the difference.

I've put through a cancellation for the 1st SIM because if you recall, I was getting Nedbank SMSs for someone else somehow using the same number, currently as well.

Even though I'd tried blocking that number for future SMSs, I continued getting them so decided that was enough reason to canx it.

" Afrihost - You can opt-out from MTN promotional SMSes by dialing *130*601# and *130*603# ".

I see this hasn't yet been updated, as it still gives the same result as previously reported.

Got the above message a few minutes ago, on the new (2nd) SIM I registered.

Not a serious matter, but preferable it's not sent out, if those 2 USSD codes don't work.

Yes that hasn't been changed yet. It's on the Dev to do list.

Any update on the Openserve issue in Pretoria?
Moreleta Park Openserve down for some people, up for others.

Hi,

The fault is still ongoing and techs are on site busy with the repairs. No ETA given yet.

Quite a large amount of clients are impacted.
