Afrihost Mobile Feedback

@AfriNatic - can you explain why the expiry date for the free 1 GB data I received is dated 30th June ?

That's a full 2 months from now, while I believed when I tapped on "Air Mobile Prepaid" to register, it stated ".... get 1GB FREE data every month".

It hasn't reset on the 1st May back to 1,024 MB like I thought it would.

Is this something a dev needs to make adjustment/s for, presumably ?

Pls refer to screenshots attached. Screenshot_2022-05-01-10-59-53-721_com.afrihost.adslbandwidthmonitor.jpgScreenshot_2022-05-01-11-00-53-905_com.afrihost.adslbandwidthmonitor.jpg

@AfriNatic - a further thought on my post above - is it 30 days from the day you sign up for the service, but that would still take it to (approx) only the 23rd May, not all the way to the end of June ?

My thinking was, a reset of the service each calendar month.

Hi,

30 June 2022 is the expiry date of the allocated data.

Airmobile Prepaid is not a monthly service. This means that each month on the 1st you can claim a 1GB free.

Today is the 1st and you can claim your 1GB free via the App.

Thanks for pointing out my laziness ; I wasn't aware I'd need to be proactive & do something to get the free data !

Jokes aside, I saw or rather noticed it pop up after tapping on "View" in the mobile data section.

All fine then & thanks for the reply.

Btw, I still get the occasional MTN SMS offering nonsense even after rejecting their offers via USSD, and a particular MTN pop-up after making a call (I think even using my Vodacom airtime).

Might send you a screenshot next time of the latter to see if you know how to get rid of it, as have looked around the phone settings but don't see anything obvious.

You switched all of these options off in the app?

Digital, marketing & mobile I've done all 3 options for each, via USSD.
Would have to see if the app has even more to choose from, to block ...

Wrt ICASA and government, don't seem to be affected because the 3 SMSs received since this newest SIM registered relate to usual type of marketing (screenshots attached). Have now switched off ICASA and government options in the app.
Everything else in that section was off, as per the ones I did via USSD.

However, i think the ones I posted might come from somewhere in this new screenshot - from MyMTN Offers - 9 specials.
Seems there's no way to delete them, or switch any or all of them off. Screenshot_2022-05-01-15-32-19-725_com.mtnsar3.jpg

On 2nd thoughts, don't think earlier SMSs relate to this section, but there are 2 lower down in the screenshot just sent :

My student offers
My town offers

Maybe the SMSs come from "My town offers" ?

Hi,

Those are offers directly from MTN. You won't be able to switch them off.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to get your air mobile APN to work? I have been in contact with Afrihost support since the 22nd of March and they don’t seem to be able to get it to work. I have tried multiple devices, confirmed that the APN is entered correctly and that I’m on MTN prepaid. The support team have reprovisioned my sim six times and they have sent it on to the critical care team at least four times. It has been sent to the dev team at least once and they have escalated it to MTN three times. They have asked me to do a sim swap and I did. I keep on asking that they escalate this issue higher, but they keep on recommending that we reprovision the sim one more time (again).

Hi,

Can you please send me a pm with your email address so I can investigate the issue for you?

We are making mobile data more affordable.

50GB Air Mobile data only clients are moving to 100GB with a new price of R475
100GB Air Mobile data only clients stay on the same package but price will drop to R475 per month down from the R1000 per month fee before.

We added a new uncapped offering for R479 per month.

It gives you full speed for the first 100GB, 8Mbps for the next 50GB, 4Mbps for the next 50GB and after 200GB usage speed drops to 2Mbps for the remaider of the month.

We allow a max of 50GB to be transferred to other Air Mobile numbers which is great if you want 1 package for the whole family. Simply signup addditional numbers for Air Mobile Prepaid and you will be able to transfer data to them in the Afrihost App.

This is Air Mobile data which means it works on existing MTN prepaid and Contract number ( yes as of today MTN contract numbers can also signup) and works on 4G,3G and 2G in any device.

My Afrihost / MTN mobile SIM is "dead in the water".

Had a normal connection earlier on.

Same thing happened last month, and then it returned to normal as if nothing had happened - after a few days.

@AfriNatic - have you any explanation as to why this might be occurring?

Pls refer to screenshot.
(the SIM with connection intact is my Vodacom SIM ; greyed out one is Afrihost / MTN. 1655461191996.jpg

Seems like you don't have service at all.

Can you check if you can make calls? If not maybe the device has an issue. Try to toggle the airplane mode to see if that helps.

Thanks!

Toggling the airplane mode did the trick, immediately, by bringing back the MTN SIM connection.

Wonder why this happens, but will make a note of it for next time.

PS - think it lost connection while in a side pocket of a bag I carry, when out ; the Vodacom connection seems more resilient!

Definitely device related. Glad it's sorted.

@AfriNatic having issues with my wife's mobile data on an iPhone...checked the APN, all in order, checked she has enough data all in order. Get the message as per attachment.

I put the SIM into another phone. Check the original APN, mymtn all working. I change the APN to afrihost and same message below.

On her account you can see last active session was 28 June. She contacts support they said everything was okay

Hi,

Can you please send me a pm with the number in question so I can have a look for you?

I have a MTN prepaid SIM which i use for work, how long does it take to switch over? (after doing the registration)

That 1GB free each month is kinda attractive + 1GB for R30 is really nice too haha

Also am i restricted to only using the Afrihost app or can i use the MTN app as well should i want a specific bundle? @AfriNatic

Sorry for the late reply. Today is the busiest day I ever had on mybroadband.

When you signup the opt in is sent to MTN and takes about 2 hours or less to activate you. The Afrihost APN is an addon and doesn't remove anything from your current MTN offers. this means you can have the MTN and Afrihost apn set and switch between them as you wish.

With Afrihost Air Mobile if you give us PII Concent we can pull call records, sms and data charges into your Afrihost app for you to see what you are being charged. This is a handy feature. You can also top up airtime in the app via card or debit order we don't charge a mark up on airtime.
