Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Any issues at the moment?

No data connection, tried to check my data on the CZ but its just a white screen, even on wifi.

was able to get it working on my Galaxy S20 5G UW. previously it didn't work when i tried months ago.

Weirdest thing though is that i seem to be getting 5G, but afaik my phone doesnt even support any of the 5G bands that are used in SA.

So what's the consensus on AirMobile? I don't like that data expires after 2 months. Also, with Telkom Mobile, every time I buy airtime, I get free data. Also, no VoWiFI / VoLTE.

Another thing that's plaguing me with Telkom is a spammer will call me and I'll block the number, but I still get a notification that I missed a call from the spammer; so can I block a number on a network level?

I also saw some USSD codes don't go through? I rely on this as sometimes my bank app doesn't log in and I need to purchase electricity or even airtime. There's no way to buy airtime if I move to AirMobile and don't have data.

Another thing is topups have to be through debit orders? Why no instant EFT?

Also, where do I put the referral code in the app without a link? My sibling has it and I want to cash in on the 5GB.

Morning.
We are still in talks with MTN to enable VoLTE and VoWIfi for MVNOs. Unfortunately, there is no ETA yet.

Yes, we have found that some USSD codes do not work, and MTN treats each case individually to enable functionality for us.

Please follow the steps on the link above for the referral process on the Airmobile App.

Your client zone App has the option EFT under the Billing tab; you just need to ensure that you are using the correct reference number for the funds to be allocated to your Afrihost profile.
Debit orders for Topups go off within 72 hours of the purchase.

@Afrigirl Good morning, I placed an order for the SIM but it's asking me to provide RICA details before shipping when I already have an entry linked in my account. Also, I wanted to order 2 SIMs; one to port and a new number.

Afrihost should have their SIMs on something like Takealot, it makes it much more convenient for me to pick it up when I can, rather than now waiting for a courier; which is also wasteful now that they have to deliver a 50 gram package.

Hi.
Are the documents not three months old?

I have had AirMobile for about 2 months and it has worked well since Day 1. The rest of the household is also contemplating getting this service.

@Afrigirl, a few questions:
1. What is the rule regarding either AfriHost or MTN cancelling the SIM after xxx days if there has not been a top-up? Eg: data is purchased monthly from 1 SIM and transferred to the others.

2. How can we group the delivery of 3 SIMs in one package?

AFAIK Afrihost SIM card does not expire like MTN prepaid SIM cards.

Place the order for all 3 SIMs at the same time in the same cart and check out.

@Afrigirl is it possible to order more than one SIM? Since I wanted 2 with my order but didn't see anywhere where I could put the quantity.

I seem to be getting 10-30% packet loss using an airmobile esim. If i do a tracerouet I can ping the 2nd hop 100.127.255.202 with 0% loss but any addresses after that I'm getting consistent loss. Happens regardless of the time, location, signal strength, network type (5G/LTE/3G). I conducted the pings below simultaneously. Seems like there's probably a problem somewhere along the handoff from MTN to your network. LTE has retransmissions baked in so you normally shouldn't see packet loss.

Code:
--- 100.127.255.202 ping statistics ---
174 packets transmitted, 173 received, 0% packet loss, time 173804ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 14.661/448.867/3416.004/802.523 ms, pipe 4
Code:
--- 196.4.93.46 ping statistics ---
167 packets transmitted, 143 received, 14% packet loss, time 167024ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 18.443/518.799/3002.899/789.107 ms, pipe 3
Code:
traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Is anyone struggling with connection issues on airmobile today? Calls seem to work fine, just data that is an issue.

I have my APN configured as ws.air.mvno
