Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Well hopefully before the 3G switch off, which MTN says is 2027. So only 2 more years to go
They really just need to do it, 3G is non usable here. No clue if its my afrihost sim. But old legacy apn does not get any speed on 3g in my area.

Have not had any connection on 3G for quite a while now. If, and that is rare, it does happen it's like having no data service at all.

Is anyone else running into Google Captcha when trying to Google stuff?

Have now experienced it both in CPT, JHB area and in Secunda (MP) - super annoying and sometimes the captcha just doesn't want to resolve. Forcing me to connect via Tailscale to get around the issue.

Been testing Melon Mobile, and I don't have this problem on that side, only different I can seem to find, is that Afrihost runs data over their network vs Melon Mobile runs natively on MTN

Really frustrating that the Afrihost app is not zero rated on AirMobile eSIM, and to make matters worse, it’s not possible to enable auto topups, so if you don’t have alternative connection options, you can’t topup when running out of data 😒

Yup, same with their regular sim. I usually switch back to mymtn APN, then use (zero rated) FNB app to buy mobile data, then go back to Afrihost app to buy more Afrihost data. Pain in the ass.

Clientzone has always been zero rated since back in the dsl days.

VoLTE indicator lit on my physical SIM since yesterday.
I'll keep an eye on things, but for the time being, putting Airmobile to bed.

Melon Mobile for now works out of the box (VoLTE & VoWifi), and no annoying Google captcha prompts.

IIt's gone again. I have not made a call in a week. If it comes on again I will call someone and see.

I have an eSIM as a backup line, but I usually keep it turned off. I got an email saying it would be deactivated in October if I didn't use it, so I turned it on.

Even after I added data and transferd airtime, I still can't make calls or browse the internet. The strange thing is, I can receive calls on it.

Would you be able to assist @Afrigirl ?

Hi.

Please drop me a a message with the number in question.

What would trigger the automatic switch from the Afrihost/Axxess APN to the default MyMTN APN?

This happened on 3 Android devices this past Saturday, eating all the airtime available for data before we realised that we weren't on the Afrihost/Axxess APNs. It is as of the switchover happened all at the same time.

3 Xiaomi handsets (Redmi 9T, Redmi Note 14 Pro, Xiaomi 14), using physical SIMs.

If I got my sim and router from AH do I still need to load airtime onto / whatever else it to keep it alive other than just using the 5G zte router?

Any news on VoLTE & VoWifi. Just changed to Airmobile and not happy that I don't have these features.

Hi.

Unfortunately, we do not have ETA on when these features will be fully rolled out for MVNO.
