Afrihost Mobile free data promotion

Afrihost thanks for the mail reminding us that the Free data will no longer be free end of the month, i think it is great that you sent a reminder.

It's only a pleasure, we always want to be as transparent as possible.
Hope you've enjoyed the data!

I think, this product will be great if Afrihost Mobile data supported all the Operator , but not only MTN....

Afrihost "catch" with free data offer

I also got this email for free data. I had a sim card provisioned and used some of the data, but soon realized I don't really need it.
The email clearly states that if I continue using it after October, I will be charged for the service. So I stopped using it before the end of October.
Afrihost decided to charge me the R145 for November anyway and when I complained about it, they came back and told me some story about cancelling before the 25th etc. I don't recall being told that I had to cancel before the 25th. (just for in case I did cancel on 1 November even though I did not think it was necessary)
I thought it was plain and simple, use after October and be charged. Don't use after October and no charge.
So, be warned. You are probably going to be charged for this data, whether you use it or not.
The whole affair leaves a sour taste in my mouth, which is a pity because until this episode I was really very impressed with Afrihost.

Did I misunderstand their offer?

"So, if you love our service and continue using our data on your phone after October, we'll start charging you R145 for the 5GB per month from November."

The Afri's and eveyone were preaching about the 25th cancellation. Where were you?

Did you not get the email that reminded you to cancel the product before the 25th to avoid billing?

No, no email warning received.

So are you telling me that the terms and conditions has changed since I agreed and signed up for the free data?

was never free

Nothing changed AFAIC.
Well, something must have changed to the conditions or otherwise Afrihost just did not stick to their end of the deal.
Here is the invitation, which I'm sure everyone else received. I don't see where I misinterpreted it.
Hi XXXXXXX,

We've loaded some free mobile GBs onto your number XXXXXXXXX and they're waiting for you in ClientZone.

So please click here and go claim your free Mobile Data now

(Simply click the link, claim your GBs, change ONE setting on your phone and you can start using your data instantly)

If you grab your free GBs now - 5GBs for September and 5GBs for October - you can get your phone, XXXXXXX, connected to Afrihost Mobile immediately.

The only 'catch' is that we can't keep giving you 5GBs free, every month, forever!

So, if you love our service and continue using our data on your phone after October, we'll start charging you R145 for the 5GB per month from November.

Enjoy!

Sorry that this wasn't communicated with you correctly :( We sent out 2 mails (from what I can remember) and a few SMS's to the clients that signed up for the offer with mention of charges involved after October.

Could you PM me your account info so I can check up on why you didn't receive these mails and SMS's?

I cancelled Mobile Two package on 19 October wasn't billed at all, clearly states on their Ts and Cs, you need to cancel before the 25th but it isn't specific if it should be during working days etc. That is the only downfall

Not quite a downfall. As long as you canceled on or before 23:59:59 on the 24th, you will not be billed for the next month.

Our systems are automated. So even if you cancel on a Sunday or Public Holiday your cancellation will be processed. The only time business hours may come into effect is for billing (especially debit orders) because we have to observe the banks limitations :(

That time of the month again when wishing for a topup special to appear . Think I should just upgrade to the 10gb deal though - this 5gb drains way too quickly.

NOOOOO! Why is it that as soon as I decide to do it the package is no longer available...damnit  (not rly mad but it does kinda suck). Oh well. Don't suppose a freshly baked batch of muffins can do anything to change the situation :D?
