Afrihost Mobile free data promotion

Just wanted to say thanks, Afriman, got the email, changed the APN, worked immediately. What an unexpected delight.

Please check for me, cause it's been a day and only shows I have used 20mb since yesterday. I have a bad feeling that I am getting a huge account from MTN. ;( I'll pm my account details.

Will we be informed before the 24th of Oct that we will start being billed for the data, as i am just worried that i forget to cancel it.

I'm not sure whether we will, I'll take that up to management. We're hoping that you're not going to though, it's an amazing deal - once you start using the data, I doubt many will be able to live without 10GB a month ;)

Just a note guys, if you use your iphone as a personal hotspot, it doesn't seem to use the afrihost APN.

I already have the Free MIFI so pointless for me to take the data on my sim, including uncapped at home.

Yeah, the MiFi is pretty convenient to carry around, you hardly seem to notice it :)

Though, the benefit of getting data on your phone is that higher end phones, like iPhones, can also allow a few more features and versatility so you can usually get a slightly better signal :)

After initially setting my apn to afrihost, I checked in clientzone as well as the app that all was well. Indeed all appeared to be well. My cellphone number showed as being active, gave me an IP address as well as the usage (up till that point).

Today, I decide to check my airtime balance only to discover that not only has my data inclusive with my TopUp package depleted, I also have about R500 less airtime :(

What's going on here?

You need to change the apn for the hotspot to afrihost as well

This was the problem. Was on mymtn apn under personal hotspot.. Had I known you have to change the apn for both cellular data AND personal hotspot, this would not have occurred.

Expensive lesson learnt.

Hate to think what it's costing you, better late than never I suppose.

I do live in eternal fear of mine being reset, since I cancelled my bundle and am trying to push serious data

A lot! I had been using my phone with usb tethering whenever adsl was slow. Mostly for streaming which performs surprisingly well I must say.

But seeing as I started this thread and neglected to head your warning from about two weeks ago, I can't blame Afrihost. I will however blame Apple!! :p
