Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

anyone else with the uncapped package experience worse than 56k speed? since upgrading my capped to uncapped it has been useless between 7:00 - 23:00 < - - seems they shape the **** out of it now

this is what I'm currently getting did not have this problem with the capped service normally after 17:00 browsing becomes near impossible

Good morning.

There's seems to be issues with our uncapped packages, please drop me PM with your account number so we can check.

Hi Afrigirl

Also having constant issues with the uncapped package, it is either latency spikes or packet loss on the daily from this week

Logged a ticket got resolved now the very next day it is showing latency issues and speed issues

Speed test shows everything is fine minus the 6mb upload, but everything feels slow and sometimes some websites are only loading at 2mbps.

Been months like this on and off

Please advise what can I do as this connection is unstable for business use and we barely saturate the connection

@Afrigirl ^^

The issue seems to be on MTN's side.

Had constant issues with their own uncapped service, so decided to sign up to AH Pure LTE (MTN).
Experience has been excellent thus far, except last Friday, when speeds tanked to below 2Mbps.

Maybe they're onboarding too many LTE customers?

Something is odd as the support says there is congestion on the line and disconnected and reconnected the session and somehow that makes a difference.

First time I had a LTE/5G service need refereshing

Quite strange yes. Could be you get connected to a different cell/tower after reconnection.
If so, shouldn't it be automatic to preserve customer experience?

MTN's system is supposed to do that to minimise congestion on a specific tower, it does not always happen. When Afrihost disconnects the session and it reconnects it automatically connects to the best tower. Restarting the router also usually does the same thing. But not always.

Figured as much. Had one of MTN's Home Uncapped packages, but it seemed to hunt between towers/cells at random times.
So it would go from strong to no signal for a couple of minutes and then back to strong signal.
So frustrating, because I'd lose connectivity for those couple of minutes.

Of course, MTN couldn't figure out the fault.

Is there supposed to be any difference between the capped and uncapped packages, aside from the expected stuff? I'm just concerned by a few people reporting issues with uncapped packages specifically in this thread.

I'm currently on the 200Gb+200Gb package and I need just a little bit more data during peak hours, so I'm considering switching to the 100mbps uncapped package for R599/month instead of the 400Gb+400Gb for R749/month. I'm OK with the throttling to 10Mbps after 500Gb of usage, I don't think I'll reach that limit anyway. I'm OK with the 100mbps speed limit because I don't even get 100mbps speeds currently because of signal anyways. Other than those 2 things, should the experience be roughly the same between the capped and uncapped package?

Can I ask you to do a test in the morning at 7 and after 11 at night?

It seems to be fine in those hours, mind having a look?

Because I have bad packloss and speeds as well on uncapped afrihost mtn

Can’t do the night Speedtest as it’s at the office

Once again there is packet loss and poor upload (2-3mbps)

This would be fine for a 4G Service minus the upload but on 5G, bad experience

Depends on your location - if you're in between sites then they will fight for dominance and cause an issue in between. This generally happens in areas where public approval for new sites was rejected. Bryanston, for instance, is the architect of its own poor network.

Could be, but I have the same service through Afrihost now and it doesn't happen at all.
Suspect MTN config team messed up, but getting their network team to look at just one customer proved difficult.

Sometimes the tower just drops the signal altogether and the router connects to another, outside the "range" allowed by the MTN system and it then suspends the service. Customer then needs to request it be unlocked to get it back up... which can take up to 2 hours for MTNs system to process it. I am sure they can make the process faster, but it's MTN we are talking about here.
