Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

I put in the correct APN 24hrs ago and MTN/Afrihost Have not activated my SIM. Spoke to afrihost on whatsapp and they couldn't even help me. Told me to wait 72hrs before they can help me. Woow. Tip: go with Telkom-FIxed-LTE since they are not tower locked (for now)!!!!!

That doesn't sound right. We'll need to take a look and see if everything is logged correctly with MTN.

Can you please drop me a PM with your details?

Wise man like myself.
Don't like nasty surprises at my age... not good for my BP and pacemaker

/jokes aside

Only thing that I cannot confirm is what happens during Eksdom cuts...Rain still worked (Vodacom tower probably) BUT... MTN may not.. that would put a real damper on things, hence my decision to keep my fixed Rain LTE month by month until I can confirm...

As far as I know there should be power backups in place, so the product should continue to work. It's hard to guarantee because some towers have different power backup solutions. Also, these generators/batteries, etc are being stolen at an insane rate, so there's always a risk - but that is true for any provider.

Our local tower stayed up during recent 8 hour cut - has a nice diesel geni...

"the sim card takes 2-4 hours to active, kindly leave the sim card in the router for this duration and it will go active on our database"

I am also considering cancelling my Rain Fixed LTE service in the next few hours to avoid extending the service until the end of December. Are the new customers generally satisfied with the MTN Pure LTE service?

I will be very unhappy to find that the new service is worse than the Rain Fixed LTE which has not been great for me over the past few months. If this is the case I will have to move to either Telkom Fixed LTE from Afrihost or just load one of the current prepaid bundles every two months.

The Telkom prepaid (PP) LTE bundle pricing is very similar to the Afrihost (AH) Telkom Fixed LTE pricing if you halve the prices of the current 61 day Telkom PP bundles and ignore the missing Night Surfer data in the second month of the Telkom prepaid LTE bundles. Afrihost does not offer a 30 + 30 or a 110 + 110 bundle.

20 + 20 - R180pm(PP) vs R199pm(AH)
30 + 30 - R230pm(PP) <---------- no Afrihost equivalent package
40 + 40 - R280pm(PP) vs R299pm(AH)
60 + 60 - R380pm(PP) vs R399pm(AH)
110 + 110 - R530pm(PP) <---------- no Afrihost equivalent package

If you recharge the airtime onto a Telkom More prepaid SIM card and then transfer it via *180# to the router SIM you should be able to get the recharge amount back in free airtime for calls, SMSs or data etc. The free airtime expires after 7 days so it would be more beneficial to recharge small amounts every week so that free airtime is available at all times.

Same here - Rain LTE has become pretty much useless for me. I received my MTN Fixed LTE sim from Axxess today. Going away for a long weekend so I'll test once I'm back.

Out of interest, what message are you guys seeing while waiting for MTN to wake up?

This is the message I’m seeing when selecting MTN(4G).

Not according to Siya from AH support I spoke with at length only yesterday who confirmed I had up till midnight on 30th to confirm my cancellation or revoke it.

Rather safe than sorry of course, but just stating what I was told.

@MirageF1: In the past I have missed the Afrihost cancellation deadlines which are usually around the 22nd of the month so I didn't want to risk it again! In any case there is a button to reactivate the service in case you change your mind!

This page on the Afrihost website mentions the 15th as the cutoff date.

At any rate if you read my earlier posts you'll see I will keep rain package active for now as well for reasons I have explained...

Shouldn't be more than a couple of hours. If you not connected by this evening, I'll ask for one of the guys to give you a call (just need your deets on PM).
Not activated...pm'd details

Our official date for same month cancellation is before the 15th. We start our billing run soon after.
