Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

I did. Axxess said they would "request an unlock for samsung a70, samsung, smartphone" (as if they looked that up in some database or log file). They didn't seem to call it unblocking or reprovisioning, but hopefully its one and the same thing. They said this unlocking is done by axxess, not mtn.

Supposedly the sim locks to both the tower and the device, even if that device type is not authorised for the network. So, then you're locked to a banned device type and changing devices doesnt help until you are unlocked.

Unlocking and blocking...

Axxess successfully unlocked the sim which was locked to the wrong device. Everything seems to be okay now. I'll post speedtests later

Recently I have noticed that Axxess has upped their customer service. I have been impressed with them so far. Just hope it stays that way.

I really wish I could agree. Another call later and I’ve been given the same story. I’ve told them that they can come fetch their sim if it’s not sorted by Thursday, they’ve wasted enough of my time.

I've had one of Axxess' online chat reps by the name of <REDACTED> spent an hour+ with me trying to debug my issue. Resetting things, changing connection modes etc. In the end we figured out that the device lock was the problem and resolved it fairly quickly.

It was a mission and probably could have been prevented with better instructions to the user and training of staff - but then Axxess did an exemplary task of finding me an alternative connection to cell c - on short notice and at the same price! So Axxess and their customer service dep gets a big thumbs up from me.

I wish I could say the same. I've been battling with Axxess support since the 7th of November regarding Fixed LTE data which is supposed to rollover, but isn't.

It seems that when a real issue occurs, it's in the hands of the provider for which they're reselling... in my case, Telkom.

It seems their hands are tied when data is provisioned incorrectly. So far there have been at least 3 "Internal Escalations" which I have absolutely nothing to show for, not even a reference number.

The latest eventual response to my ticket. :-D

Please advise which router are you using for the MTN Fixed simcard? As the new MTN fixed simcard only works on specific routers, namely:
Huawei B525,
Huawei B612,
Huawei B618,
ZTE MF286

If you use it on another router besides the ones listed above, you won't have connection.

Thank you. "

Not sure if I should laugh or cry. I've already told them I'm using B618, in coverage, given my address, correct APN, etc.

That's the issue I'm sitting with now. They've gone through their cue cards and now they're stumped. No reference number or anything.

Seems like they dont know what to do when the sim disconnects from being put in the wrong type modem. Shame hope you come right soon. Must be so God dam frustrating.

What bothers me is that last week I saw on the Afrihost website I got coverage in my area. That was also confirmed by a support agent per email! Now when I checked again to place my order suddenly there is no coverage and the support agent also confirmed no coverage. This is not very convincing at all. What will happen when I order the modem deal only to find out there is no connection at all!

Thanks, yep but I've never put it in the wrong modem, it was in a B618 from day one.
I'm just about ready to shout at someone, but even that doesn't seem possible with them.

I guess I'll cancel and wait for the MTN black Friday deals if this is not sorted soon.

I did read something about a limited number of available slots, so maybe it's since been filled?

Have you checked the MTN coverage map linked at the start of this thread. It may be more accurate than the 3rd party ones like Afrihost....

The town where I live is small, I must admit so it could be that it was filled, but I doubt that is the case here. With the MTN coverage map I can see the coverage and it confirmed on the map LTE-fixed coverage when I select that option. I can see the patches on the map and I am in that patch. But to proceed with a order from Afrihost it seems I need coverage on their map before I can proceed with my order. :(

Inserted it into my B618 router in a location I know signal is strongest (tested with a PAYG MTN sim) ....configured the APN as advised and lo and behold says "no service"

@AfriFella @AfriMan Just tweeted Afrihost =let's see how long my provision will take.,,,
