Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

I have also been plagued with unusable internet almost every night from 7-11pm for the past month. Since inter-SA web traffic appears to be fast and this issue limited to MTN, I've been able to get manageable speeds by connecting to a VPN server in South Africa through one of the major paid VPN providers.

Occasionally the international speed just become disabled super slow. Been experiencing this since Saturday through the weekend and now. Had better speed when the cables were still being repaired. I have tried Afrihost support with no solution.

Local speeds seem fine, just the international download speeds can't even get 1mb. speed test 0.08-0.6, anyone with any idea or knowledge, appreciate your insight.

My international seems better. Latency could be better but we'll take what we can get.

Is it fine throughout the day? usually around the day it seems ok, but come night time. Think off peak hours it becomes worst than dial-up.

mine was an issue throughout the day and night. At the moment it’s very erratic. However at least the international speed is above 15 Mbps so my streaming is unaffected.

@dotcat The reps have not responded to any of my tags or PM's since 10 Feb 2020. Hopefully they will respond to yours.

I cancelled my Rain sim at the beginning of this month with the intention of applying for one of the Afrihost MTN Pure LTE packages soon. I have also been closely following this thread for a while so now I'm a bit two-minded about this. So my question is, are these slow international speeds a general problem with MTN as a whole or is the problem only with Afrihost? Should I rather be looking to go with the likes of Axxess or Supersonic?

I don't think it matters. All of them suck. Rain. MTN. Telkom. You have periods of the day that are good, but the moment the demand is high it plummets. When they start out it is good. Couple of months later and it is like a Flat Earther in a home made rocket.

I completely agree with this.

I started on Telkom 4G, was good, went awful after a month.
Moved to Rain fixed LTE, worked good, went awful after a month.
Eventually moved to CellC when my rain speeds went down to less than 100KBps a second
CellC was okay, some days you'd get 70Mbps, other days you'd get 70Kbps.
By far MTN fixed has been the worst, axxess or afrihost, same issues exist.
Nothing beats a fixed line or a point-to-point wifi connection.

Appreciate the feedback guys. I am still with Telkom LTE but contract is coming to an end shortly so have to make a decision soon. I've seen that Supersonic uses MTN business network. Does that make difference compared to Afrihost MTN LTE?

Here's my speedtest before and after connecting to a local VPN server so international traffic is routed differently:

Hallo everyone,

I'm in a pickle with this erratic Fixed MTN, which they'd just "Fix" it already. Via Afrihost.

I play one game and one game only, War Thunder. My packet loss is between 30% and 90% which forces me to buy Vodacom data just to play online.

Wen doing continuous pings to one of Gaijins servers in the Netherlands I can replicate the packet loss. Speed is okay, but must say this week specifically even my 720p Youtube streams have buffered and watching F1 testing via F1TV (which auto scales resolution)the quality goes to around 720p, then 360p then back to 720p for a while and again back to 320p, over and over and over.

I font have fiber, line of site wireless or even adsl where I live, only LTE coverage from at lest all the players. i left telkom month to month via WebAfrica due to the small saving on MTN vs Telkom and also the propaganda marketing they ran regarding how good it is.

TBH I cannot recommend this pathetic service to anyone. I'm in Bloem on a very little populated area with 2 towers. Still we suffer. Just going to move back to Telkom again if this is not sorted out. This whole issue almost directly coincided with the WACS and SAT cable breakages so wonder if they haven't routed the traffic back from secondaries to mains again, just feels it was with this whole situation...

This is my last post regarding AH FLTE.
Managed to cancel and am free of AH.
@AfriMan @AfriGuy @AfriFella @AfriNatic
I don't think it right that you guys just ignore tags, PM's, etc. The radio silence has done AH more harm than good. If there is an issue and you guys can't offer support here anymore, that message should have been conveyed. Hell, even just a PM saying something, anything would have gone a long way. But alas, here we are. All the best going forward.

Can they just cancel this s&^t and give our money back....take your router as well. Getting a whopping 4.5kB/s

Yeah. Mine is also dead at this moment. This morning it worked fine. (Maybe my data is finished.) Afrihost support seems to also be a roller coaster ride, same as the speeds. I really hoped they have improved. I think I might also just cancel and pay the R1000 for the router.

Can this router, (ZTE MF286C) LTE Cat 6, Band 1/3/7/8/28 , be used with RAIN @cavedog ?
Specs

Maybe I should push for a refund and just buy a Huawei router cash?

(P.S. Rain is just as bad, but I want to try and see if maybe not lucky during the day.)

Thinking of moving directly to Supersonic. Only issue is whether they offer roll over. Afrihost is really getting on my nerves. There is an issue to which they’re not acknowledging. I can’t deal with this ****
