Thought I'd chime in and add that I too am having issues with international connection
on Afrihost MTN Pure LTE

speed aside the instability and what I'm assuming is packet loss is really frustrating.
I can still download things, possibly even stream stuff at low quality but anything truly realtime
just disconnects/times out/ rubber bands horrendously.

I've not experienced any noticeable change in pings to internat. sites, even when the undersea cable/link was down a while back.

It's always been +- 200ms give or take, higher in evenings and peak times granted...but nothing overly excessive and long lasting.

For fixed LTE I'm guessing sub 50ms pings would be unattainable...except perhaps on the rare 5G connections.

I don't think it right that you guys just ignore tags, PM's, etc. The radio silence has done AH more harm than good. If there is an issue and you guys can't offer support here anymore, that message should have been conveyed. Hell, even just a PM saying something, anything would have gone a long way. But alas, here we are. All the best going forward.

Not only is this service so unstable, but now apparently usage allocation is a disaster too. I just checked my cap today and apparently my day time usage has already been 20gb while my night time hasn't even been touched. Even though I downloaded 20gb at like 2AM, but I have to prove it. Unbelievable.

While I do agree with you on using LTE for gaming as generally the jitter is too high. The MTN fixed LTE is on another level of unstableness.
Rain works extremely well for gaming, there are occasional issues, but nowhere close to MTN fixed LTE.
Even better, try a normal MTN sim card, its leagues smoother with almost 0 jitter.
Either MTN or Afrihost is doing something weird with their routing on these packages

LTE Capped today lol, 1 day before month end. R150 data top top :(

Ludicrous amount of night time data though, I really hope they give their customers the flexibility to sacrifice night time for anytime at 2x ratio or something.

The funny thing is, Fibre has just been put in to our complex, not live yet - but like it almost guides me to want to move away from Afrihost LTE.

- As you cannot upgrade your package past 150+150
- Top ups are stupid expensive

Just wish Afrihost had some more focus on client wants than "leave as is"


Off topic: Recent posts been talking about latency, On a mobile game i play when im on the couch from time to time, I get wierd experiaces where I rubber band for the first 10 seconds of the start of the game - which will result in a defeat lol. Its annoying

I'm in a pickle with this erratic Fixed MTN, which they'd just "Fix" it already. Via Afrihost.

I play one game and one game only, War Thunder. My packet loss is between 30% and 90% which forces me to buy Vodacom data just to play online.

Wen doing continuous pings to one of Gaijins servers in the Netherlands I can replicate the packet loss. Speed is okay, but must say this week specifically even my 720p Youtube streams have buffered and watching F1 testing via F1TV (which auto scales resolution)the quality goes to around 720p, then 360p then back to 720p for a while and again back to 320p, over and over and over.

I font have fiber, line of site wireless or even adsl where I live, only LTE coverage from at lest all the players. i left telkom month to month via WebAfrica due to the small saving on MTN vs Telkom and also the propaganda marketing they ran regarding how good it is.

TBH I cannot recommend this pathetic service to anyone. I'm in Bloem on a very little populated area with 2 towers. Still we suffer. Just going to move back to Telkom again if this is not sorted out. This whole issue almost directly coincided with the WACS and SAT cable breakages so wonder if they haven't routed the traffic back from secondaries to mains again, just feels it was with this whole situation...

Fine here as I've mentioned numerous times before...I guess I have just been v lucky indeed with speeds and tower availability even during LS'ing...

I suspect severe tower congestion at certain times of day/night for most ppl experiencing unacceptably low dl's and v high pings....all depends on usage/demand in your area and local tower.

The MTN service from Afrihost is very frustrating - when it is working it is amazing near 50mbps speed, but it is so inconsistent, i have constant issues - i had my simcard not working for over a week after the first month of the switchover from Cell C(they forgot to RICA it) then more than once additional data purchased on my account and showing as available was not allocated to the sim, I have contiuous issues where they need to "refresh" the connection - Support is almost never available in the hours I actually use the connection, even during normal hours it takes 5 to 24 hours to get a response on whatsapp support, and some of the responses to auppoet tickets are crazy - `move the router close to another window' - come on guys if speed was running at 50mbps and the next day at 500kbps and it shows full signal on 4g+ its not a modem positioning problem - it is a network problem
