Hi Guys

I need some help please. I have been trying to solve this problem with Afrihost support and am getting nowhere.

for the last month I have not been able to watch netflix on my afrihost capped account (10meg line)

I can still access the website and browse all the content, but when i click play the video just hangs and does not load.

When I swap to a telkom account or a webafrica it streams fine like normal, using the same computer, the same router, the same unotelly account.

Surely there is something wrong with my account?

I really like the deal i get from afrihost and the level of support, but netflix is also important to me but i really do not want to change ISP's

The excuse I got from afrihost support this morning below

"I hope that you are well today:)

I have done research on Netflix and there is an article on Netflix on my broadband.

They are restricting access to people that are not in America,Newzealand and Canada.

There are some VPN clients that still work and some that don't and even with the VPN clients that work, they don't always work

Go to my broadband and search Netflix and you will be able to get more information on the matter."

How does that even make sense if it works on all the other isp accounts??

Please help

[-]What masking service are you using to get around the geoblocking? Unotelly?[/-] Are you refreshing your IP within Unotelly? Do you get any warnings when you go to https://www2.unotelly.com/quickstart

No issues with Netflix and Afrihost capped account on my side. Streaming daily on a 4mb line. Definitely isolated to your account.

Hi Red17sg

I was replying to your PM a few mins ago.
Anyway, have you tried another DNS/ VPN provider to see if the results can be replicated? Looks like a few of the guys above aren't having issue accessing Netflix.

thanks for your replies guys.

@AfriGuy I am happy to try anything, any particular DNS/VPN i should use?

Thanks!

Afrihost has never ever been good for Netflix.

Have you given Bwana's question and suggestion some thought?
He is the only poster that actually addresses your issue directly.

Yes i refresh using unotelly website and now today I just downloaded there app, that runs in the background.

No warnings whatsoever and all other websites I need unotelly for work fine.

Seems sad because I really did like the deal i get at Afrihost, but I think I am going to have to change. Any suggestions to who? Cybersmart?

At the moment I am paying R697 for 166GB 10meg bundle (which obviously includes line)

What browser are you using? I know it might be clutching at straws, but I had the same issue as you when using Chrome. You can load the page but when you click on the movie you want to watch, the loading page just sits there with that annoying red spinning loading icon. I switched to Firefox and presto, videos load.

EDIT: Just for what it's worth, my secondary account is an Afrihost capped account and I can use Netflix without issue (in Firefox of course! :D )

Have a similar setup and everything is working fine. Try change your uno telly DNS servers maybe? I'm using Jhb and Cpt. Also have you enabled your re-direct for google dns?

I found this happens when you use something like Hola! for Chrome and have the Unotelly DNS addresses but without a valid Unotelly subscription.

Chrome

This is an ISP / Chrome issue. On Axxess and Afrihost I have the problem on Chrome - IE works. At work using internet solutions ISP Netflix works on the same PC and on Chrome.

Axxess and Afrihost to comment...

I am honestly not aware of any issues related to Chrome and Netflix on our ADSL accounts.

Are you able to test the streaming using Firefox or Opera?

Hi

Yes, it works on Firefox and IE but not with Chrome. At work on a different ISP, the same laptop, same Netflix account - it works 100% on Chrome.

Thanks

Jody

Chrome / ISP Issue - Afrihost and Axxess

Just to add, this is affecting other folk I know too. (They are on Axxess.)
If they connect at work also all fine then. It's just with Chrome & Afrihost / Axxess combination.
I have tried changing DNS service. Tried HOLA and Mediahint too.

Evening Guys!

Quick thing, for those guys trying to use Chrome with Netflix, can you please make sure that the "Data Saving" option in Chrome is completely disabled.

I think it could be a case of the Google Proxy Servers somehow causing a conflict with your DNS proxies and Netflix.

Hi AfriGenie
Data Saving in Chrome on Windows PC? Where do we find those settings?
