Afrihost & Netflix problem. Is anyone else having this.

Hi AfriGenie
Data Saving in Chrome on Windows PC? Where do we find those settings?

Drats!

It seems that this is only a feature on Beta-builds of Chrome, so I don't think it would be causing the issue Netflix and Chrome.

The Search continues!

EDIT: The awesome folks at Google sent me these step to try:

If you are experiencing these problems, please try these troubleshooting steps first:

Ensure that Silverlight works on other browsers (Firefox, Safari, IE)

Clear your cache and cookies and try incognito mode

Type chrome://plugins/ into your omnibox, and make sure Silverlight is enabled

Confirm that Silverlight is installed and up to date by visiting this site

Disable HTTPS Everywhere for Netflix by clicking the HTTPS Everywhere icon in the omnibox (address bar) and unchecking the options while at the Netflix site (Thanks @Rybuns for this great solution)

Hi AfriGenie
Netflix does not allow viewing in cognito mode.
Please send clearer instructions for the https everywhere suggestion.

As far as I know Netflix has switched over to html5 for playback in chrome, so the Silverlight should not be the issue here. @jodes - https everywhere is only applicable if you have the extension installed from the chrome web store.

Has anyone been able to get Netflix to work on Chrome (Windows PC) while connected via Afrihost ISP?

If anyone has any doubt that this is NOT related to Afrihost, go ahead and buy some IS bandwidth and give it a whirl.

My line has been dropping in the evening for about a week now, and I got gatvol. I happened to be standing in front of my router when the line "dropped", except I noticed that my ADSL didnt lose sync at all... it was the ISP portion that lost connection. The whole time the line kept sync. The internet light went RED and tried to reconnect for about a minute before eventually going GREEN. From my experience, this is NOT a ADSL sync issue.... On Wednesday night my line dropped 3 times in 45 min. Its a serious problem. Worth noting here that I was online the WHOLE day yesterday and didnt have a single issue until about 7pm. When the world finishes dinner and goes online.

When I turn my router off, and back on again, most of the time it connects again, but then sometimes it does the red internet light thing. But eventually it always does connect.

So I bought some IS bandwidth last night and instantly my problem vanished. And you know what else worked first time? My netflix, on every device in the house. this is after struggling for WEEKS with Netflix on my PC. Tried everything under the sun to "fix" my Netflix.

So dont waste your time troubleshooting, just get yourself a decent ISP. I've supported Afrihost since the beginning, through thick and thin but Im over their complete BS now. I cant tolerate it anymore

I stream fine with Afrihost.

While I am sure there are a lot of clients streaming extremely well with Afrihost, there are others having issues.
I was trying to hep a friend troubleshoot his issue last week after failed attempts with Afrihost service desk.

Constant buffering on netflix and very bad quality voip on a 4 meg business account. This was not only on chrome though.

As I said, I am sure that there is a lot of customers that are happy with their Afrihost streaming and performance, but there is quite a few clients who have never ending issues with their accounts as well.

Are you using Chrome by any chance?

Im going to ask the question for you that you cant 'cos public relations and all.
If users know they are having a problem with netflix in chrome but no problem in IE or firefox then why not get over it and use IE or firefox for netflix?
Or better yet stop watching it through a browser and get a decent device to watch it through a tv!

I have several hundred clients on the same bandwidth, and some of them have streaming issues, but those are generally people on wonky exchanges
