Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

I have to agree that the change in business uncapped shaping policy without letting the customer know via email or other method is absolute bullsh*t. I will be moving elsewhere as this is completely underhanded. I have lost all faith in AfriHost. You most probably don't care and I will most probably get a standard response of "We sincerely wish you the best going forward".

Yes, that actually peeved me off as much as the underhandedness. Really a poor show and Afrihost management should be held responsible for this, with the Telkom savings, Afrihost shapes the business account, boggles the mind.

And let's not forget that when the sh*t hit the fan with the network, not once were the business accounts given anything in return like the capped accounts. And please don't come with an excuse of "what can we give the business accounts as they are already uncapped?". As was previously stated by another forumite, AfriHost's marketing department could have come up with something if they really wanted to. So if you look at - our "gift" as business uncapped is a new shaping policy and no price cuts after Telkom dropped their prices. Well done. Absolutely *****ing fantastic. Thanks AfriHost for nothing. Anyone, this is my last post here. Moving on from this mess. Good luck and all the best.

So true, and I think all the free data they gave away only made things worse, and then they did it again and again, so Business users are basically second rate citizens, well I have been a customer for years, and have put up with a lot of crap, but today was enough. When companies get too comfortable, customer service drops, and this is a typical example. I get the impression over the years that they are actually quiet happy for you to cancel your account, I was even sent a PM stating that it would be better for me to go, now how is that a way to run a business. Is this how Afrihost's management actually instruct their staff to respond to clients?

Companies should try it retain their customers, not chase them away with underhanded tactics, pity we cannot escalate our displeasure to higher levels, I tried once, and got through to a manager who was not worried in the least about my problems.

:(

It's never great to see a Client move on, I do mean it when I say that I wish you all the best with your new provider.

I'm sure this only applies to the informed mybroadband client who seem to have their finger on the pulse more so than your average user who doesn't use this site.

Seems like I am going to join the exodus. Been a week of terrible latency every evening. From what I see it doesn't seem like Afrihost is being up front with their customers. The fact that they snuck in the change to their business uncapped shaping policy should have set alarm bells ringing. It suggests, along with all the similar user problems reported here, that they have a problem with their capacity. Anyway that's my 2 cents. I really hope they pull it together. When it works they are capable of delivering excellent service.

I just opened a line fault as all my stats decreased substantially.
Code:
Time connected	00Days 00hrs 03min 43sec
Modulation type	G.992.5-A
Actual rate (up)	1020 kbps
Actual rate (down)	8316 kbps
Data transfered (sent)	0 kB
Data transfered (received)	0 kB
Output power (up)	12 dBm
Output power (downstream)	19.5 dBm
Line attenuation (up)	23 dBm
Line attenuation (downstream)	42.1 dB
Noise margin (up)	6.5 dB
Noise margin (downstream)	7.8 dB
Had a 10Mbps sync, 9dB downstream about three hours ago.
Afrihost support guy, when I started talking with him, said "have you done a speedtest". I was flabbergasted as I'm talking about line stats, specifically I said "My line's downstream sync is at 8Mbps instead of the 10Mbps I had two hours ago, my SNR has alos worsened". Then went on about ASSIA being rolled out and stuff. I did interrupt him and kind of berated him, sorry but was annoyed. If I am talking about line stats and my line stats worsened, it's not ASSIA. ASSIA would just try to keep it stable at 6dB Noise Margin or above, when I stated it lowered the sync from 10Mbps down and 9dB SNR to 8Mbps down and 6dB SNR, it should immediately click that it's not ASSIA.

I'm betting on a Telkom tech being lazy and has swapped out the ports with someone else who has an issue, all my line faults so far have been port issues.

EDIT:

All the voice part of the telephones in TV were down yesterday as well.

Check your modulation type, it looks weird.

Hoping it is fixed quickly. :)

Want to bet they'll only show up Friday, earliest? Why does this always happen during my exam weeks.
That is how things work. Everything and anything that can go wrong will when you don't want them too. :(
