Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Please clarify for me. Before all this double data nonsense i was on 400gb capped at R799. I never changed my package when we got the double data. So if i go with priority booosted, do I revert back to to my 400gb per month with no shaping? What about after hours data? Is there a change to that?

Was that R799 including your DSL Line rental?

Free-Time and After-Hours data remain as they are. If you are paying R299 and more for your Capped account you will get the 18 hours Free-Time and if you are on a smaller package you will get the 00h00 to 08h00 After-Hours Data.

If opt for the Priority-Boosted Account you will continue to receive 400GB of data per month.

By default it should remain 400GB Unshaped.

Just because you stopped the free data your client should not be expected to now have to change accounts or opt for anything, he wants what he was and is paying for, nothing more.

What about the thousands of users out there who dont use this forum and have Gian set on a spam filter?

If you default them to a shaped accout you have changed their package without consulting them.

Consumer council could have some fun in the new year over this mess.

That's why each our Capped Clients will receive a mail explaining the changes in detail allowing to quickly and easily decide which option they would prefer. I certainly hope there aren't thousands of our Clients with Gian's being blocked.

We could perhaps have a notification in the ClientZone.

Well I am very disappointed in Afrihost for the first time ever! I have referred so many people to you and I am wondering if I have now made a mistake. You say the capped account is the last on the list to get shaped but now I am checking out: https://www.afrihost.com/microsites/network/management/

More to the bottom of the page is a slider labeled SHAPING EXAMPLES, and I see even on LOW STRAIN the capped products gets shaped with P2P and Large downloads. That slider/chart/picture is in direct contrast as to what you say about capped products being shaped last! :(

I don't think that chart is as clear as it could be, the Capped products are definitely the last to be shaped if the need arises.

Not at all. :)

So would I be right in saying that Priority Boosted is the same as the capped accounts we have right now?

As I don’t see it listed or talked about at all in the management page.

Yet on the capped page if you scroll down under the "Get Priority-Boosted Bandwidth" one of the subheadings says "We may sometimes shape Non-Realtime Services during our busiest times. These Services include HTTP Downloads (downloading a file from your browser), Torrents and NNTP."

And if that is true, then it is a shaped service...

Only the Shaped Capped accounts are listed on that page, the Priority-Boosted accounts aren't listed there as they will never be shaped.

Afri-genie and man, do you guys think we are over reacting with the news from this morning? Given that you guys have to deal with complaints if the network goes to ****. Do you guys foresee the cap accounts being shaped every other night?

Well AfriGenie can you please let the guys know to update that chart because as it stands now, I think you are set to lose out many clients because of that (including me as well).

and this

"INSTANT, REALTIME SERVICES NEVER SHAPED, NO MATTER WHAT
Although our intention is to never shape, sometimes, during outages and special circumstances, we may be required to shape some real-time services. "

To be honest, I don't think the majority of our Clients will notice any difference in their experience with us. For those Clients, they are after the best possible value for money, and if you combine After-Hours / Free-Time with Plus+ it means that they can get the best possible experience for the best possible value.

From what I have seen I don't think our Shaped Capped Clients will have to worry about shaping being a regular occurrence.

I'll be sure to pass on that feedback. :) Thanks for the heads-up.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. The management page should really have what you just said in big writing.

Also, I'm currently on a 200+200 capped with Afrihost+ totalling 800GB.
Does this mean that if I switch to Priority boosted it will be a 200GB account? And with Afrihost+ will be 400GB of unshaped data?

And if things go that pear-shaped, it will be the Home Uncapped, Premium Uncapped and Business Uncapped that will be shaped before the Shaped Capped.
