Trace complete.

Been two weeks now,and internet is still not lekke.

2nd hop keeps bombing out.

Phoned telkom about ten times the past two weeks and they keep saying everything is fine there, they checked everything they can.

From my understanding 2nd hop is the exchange, but they keep saying there is no problem.

What else can this be?

If you want to see what is going on at the 2nd hop then ping bras.afrihost.com

Thanks

Telkom could have told me that ai ai

Anyway i was still having major problems with pings 400-800ms pings for days,so it was isp related?

It may not be... You should have gotten a result there... If you run a speedtest, what sort of latency are you getting?

Not using any other services at the moment.
Seems to have stabilized again for League. Hovering between 200-205. Will have to wait till this evening to see if it remains the same.

Maybe there is someone that can help me here, this morning my internet started acting up, some websites wouldn't open, links on gmail wouldn't open, just get a website unavailable, very slow and unresponsive on sites that would open, I switched back to my old modem and all is well again, I haven't touched any settings on my new modem which is a ASUS AC52U, I have no idea how this is possible, is this a DNS issue? I know my steam downloads were having issues even after Afriman said they were working on some things, and this morning it looks like p2p was at a crawl as well.

Edit: I was trying to see if I could stream anything from Kodi on a Android box over wifi, all links were dead, that is the only thing that is different.

Can someone explain this to me please, as it makes zero sense.
More hops better latency on Business Uncapped, and different routing as well.

Either capped accounts are managed and not truly Unshaped or Business Accounts are given higher priority.

I am a bit confused about your capped products, in particular why they are called, for example, 10 + 10. This seems to imply that the 20 GB is available in 2 tranches, e.g. midnight to 6 AM and the balance and this would be at odds with the free midnight to 6pm offering.

In fact, if I can do 10GB in the midnight to 6pm period, why would I need to sign up for a bigger cap? How would your 20GB capped package compare with my Telkom uncapped under these circumstances?

Finally, how long are these offerings going to run for? It would somewhat of a disaster were I to sign up only to be told within 90 days that the offer was being terminated!

10GB standard plus a bonus 10GB of Double Anytime Data.

That is why I left the first time, the uncertainty factor and selling insurance (Afrohost+ accounts) so you can't actually budget unless you assume the package is 10GB as they can drop it to 10GB at a whim but you still have pay what you thought was for 20GB, effectively they have the option to double your cost at any time.

Add to that the fact that it is unusable in the western cape after 6PM and you need your own redundancy if you need reliable internet. You end up with three separate ISP's and the costs mount up.

I would happily pay twice what they currently charge if they had sufficient IPC to handle the load in the Western Cape in the evenings (Not day time which is their benchmark) and offered proper pearing for redundancy and a backup undersea cable.

I use Afrihost for day time (Unshaped, Uncapped, effectively), VOX for evenings and Telkom for an alternative undersea cable. Telkom also finds 10 times as may pears than either of the other two ISP for P2P Streaming so I also use the Telkom account for F1 Races where I need accurate timing to enjoy it without buffering.

But with the 50 + 50 GB account now being the minimum to use open time and no reliability after 6PM I have canceled again because the 100GB would go unused.

Is there something up with Afrihost for the last day or 2? My steam downloads are always full speed but for the past two days my steam downloads have been down in the dumps and it jumps all over the place.

Up to full speed (around 900 KB/s), then down to a 100, up to 500, down to 200. This is going on constantly. Steam usually maxes out my line and it stays there.

I've also been struggling to load some local and international web pages (Facebook, autotrader, supersport).

Please may I ask for some help.

Contacted support ..... my SNR is 6 and the line is slow.

They in turn contacted Telkom.

Support asked if I had been contacted to which I replied .... no.

Support somehow took this to mean the problem was solved?

To which I responded that the problem was still evident ... please log a fault with Telkom.

To which they replied its my router.

To which I replied .... no, the router is new, the 3rd hop is at 204ms, the SNR is 6 and the speed less than 1 meg.

To which they replied, they have re created the port .... have a nice day.

No, I am having a terrible day ..... what part of PLEASE LOG A FAULT WITH TELKOM did not articiulate well?

Please guys ...... I am asking nicely ...
I have sent the stats, I have replaced the router, I have communicated well.

Thank you

Getting latency of 118ms when doing a speed test.

Speeds are also slow. What's happening today?

Guess its just another day, another week, another month where we cant use the full potential of our Internet :crylaugh:

Not sure what is going on - download speeds were pretty bad for a while now, but seems to have dropped even worse :(

And using a different ISP on the same line and the same hardware:
