Afrihost New Network Feedback

Back from a very long "well deserved break" and extremely happy to report that with Season 5 of Diablo III released on Friday (15 Jan 2016), I spent a load of my free time working my Crusader ............... with no internet issues (burned at least 24 Hrs + this weekend and had an awesum gaming experience).

PS: Thx to Afrihost and their Critical Care Team folk (specifically Donovan), it certainly would seem that my net connection is fiinally back on track - Thanks Folks, it is indeed much appreciated.

PSS: Any confirmation that the "FREE GB's" between 12:00 and 06:00 AM will be removed on the low end capped accounts?

I know it has been mentioned here a couple of times but can someone tell me what the AH dns servers are for JHB region? I can't seem to find the many posts where they are mentioned.

Should be 169.1.1.1, 169.1.1.2, 169.1.1.3 and 169.1.1.4 :)

Anybody having slow connections during the evenings? Last night and now tonight, at about 8pm onwards I'm struggling to stream a 480p video. Very weird as during the day it's flying along nicely. I have a feeling this wind is not helping, because it's crazy strong during the evenings.

If it's regularly occuring (especially at a specific time) I would suspect congestion over weather conditions :(

Has something gone wrong on the network? I have 2000 ping to Teamspeak... :(

I'm not aware of any major problems but a few people seem to have picked up a bit of latency. I'll check in with the network team if they were able to isolate anything on their side :(

I'm also on Afrihost in Amanzimtoti... online gaming has gone to crap. Also 1000+ ping, internationals not resolving.

I can't pick up any known Telkom issues from the weekend, but to my knowledge the East network should have been fine over the weekend.

Did you run any tests I can look at? Are you still having that problem now?

Thanks so much for posting your feedback - I know all the guys in Critical Care will appreciate the kind words :)

Hey Afripeeps, I know this might not be you guys but maybe you can answer.

So my net went down, checked my router and it was the actual line that was down (showed ADSL 0/0 ). I checked my phone and there was no dial tone. I waited a few mins and suddenly my internet line came back up but instead of being 4096/512 it's now showing 4096/256. I've had this line for over a year now and it's always been 4096/512 (actual upload was around 460). My phone line is still not working though but the internet is.

You guys have an idea on what this could be? Phone's not working but net is and my upload is now halved.

Not bothering to call Telkom since the left doesn't know what the right is doing.

Do AH call center agents know how to change from Interleaved mode to fast path or can only telkom do it?

I also had an increase in latency on the third hop, sadly forgot to copy it here. I had 220ms rather than the usual 180 to EuW LoL, it seems to be cleared up now tough.

That's a weird one - I'm under the impression that all lines have a 512kbps upload up to 10Mbps. It must be a mistake, and I'm sure that Telkom will sort that out.

Yeah, I just thought maybe you guys had heard of a scenario like this in the past. Maybe my phone line being down means they're tinkering with something. If it stays at 256kbps, who do I contact? You guys currently manage my line. My line is clearly capable of 512 upload since I was getting 460 real world speeds before.

They may have done this on the while exchange, but it's not something I've come across too often. If we manage your line, we'll log this with them. Problem is, if we have to log as a slow access fault, you'll need to do some tests for us.

That does not sound right. From what I have confirmed the download/upload profiles for stable ADSL lines are as follow,

1Mbps/256Kbps
2Mbps/512Kbps
4Mbps/512Kbps
10Mbps/1024Kbps

It only differs if the line has problems syncing at optimal speed.

You could be right on the 1Mbps, i didn't think of that. Let me check :(

How long could these tests take, speed test I tried just now maxes at 250kbps. I'm sure I could dig up some old speedtests I've posted here showing my old upload.

Exactly. I was managing 460kbps upload before the change. I'm probably just overreacting since my phone line is still down, so they must be playing around.

If your line is still down, then I wouldn't panic too much. Definitely best to let it all get resolved and then take it up with Telkom if it's not taken back to 512kbps.
