Afrihost New Network Feedback

If you're going to test another account, please do so for a few hours. The account and port needs to settle to get a fair comparison :)

The fact is I log into quake with Afrihost and I ping about a 100 to a local server in CT; I do the same with WA I get a ping of 20, I switch back to Afrihost I get a ping of a 100 - those are the facts on the ground. I'd like to state I was pinging 20 on Afrihost before I started spiking up to a 100. So 20 is the normal ping for my exchange locally to the designated server when things are working correctly.

It does appear that whatever was causing the 100+ latency has settled now.

What DNS servers are you using?

did we get some sort of "free" bump in speed?

Is Afrihost shaping youtube traffic at the moment on business unshaped uncapped accounts? I can't seem to get more than around 1mbit performance:

Normal Speed Test is running fine though:

All fine on my 10Mbit capped account? I assume you are on a 2Mbit business uncapped?

Could you also give a location?

Message TelkomZA or ranger (not sure on ranger) on this forum. If your line is with Afrihost, ask a rep here.

Best to ask telkomZA if his still on MYBB, tried him a few times but no answer, Afrihost can only do a port reset and resync, they cant lock your line and even after they resync your line ,ASSIA will take over and undo their settings, the ASSIA system has blocked ISPs from fine tuning ADSL lines :(

Yup; running out of Durbanville. Was fine before the whole nonsense crash this week.

- still have this problem currently youtube not running faster than around 120-130KB/sec while speed tests run @ 220KB/sec

Yeah, me too but my results on a 4meg business account are rubbish

Download Speed: 2110 kbps (263.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 131 kbps (16.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 84 ms
Jitter: 94 ms

Guys I understand that you do your network management to shape other protocols and what not to get the 3rd to 4th hop of CT north Durbanville to work etc... but really having your game latency spike up from 19ms to 100ms every few minutes on Afrihost is k a k. You need to start managing your network before that occurs not afterward...

Well I think I've uncovered the mystery of my YouTube/Twitch problem: Afrihost(or their upstream) is throttling international bandwidth down to around 0.4-0.8mbit on 2mbit accounts:
New York:

London:

Local (full 2mbit):

I assume this is due to the Seacom/WACS break and their fail over links not having the capacity to service their clients at more than around 50%, which would explain why the 4mbit client is seeing 2mbit...

*also seeing poor loading of gmail this eve.

Does anyone have some feedback for me on the congestion on my exchange? I am really getting tired of seeing 999 spikes when playing some COD. The line is really behaving badly.... :(

Genie - please see if you can follow up on that ticket I sent you? Thanks mate!

If you had a lot of rain this weekend, it may have had an effect your line. I couldn't use my internet much either because my line didn't stay synced. Latencies were okay though...when the line was up

It has been a week since I asked them to limit my upload sync speed to 3mb to try and stabilise my service. I had to explain it to two different staff what does it mean to limit a sync speed and today it is still not done. Luckily every now and again it is stable, but I don't like to reboot the router constantly. When I dealt with Telkom direct they did it while I was on the phone.
