There is a break in the fibre link between Johannesburg and Durban, it is being attended to. The moment I have an ETR or an update I'll post it here.
I'm in Durban as well. Slow ass internet. Hopefully the fix is quick.

This will affect all DSL users and those connected to the Telkom infrastructure in the East I'm afraid.

I certainly hope so... But I won't know until we receive confirmation from the Team working on the cable break.

Speeds are looking much better currently to New York / London. Good job. I'll do another test tonight ~8:30 just to make sure it's not just off peak numbers I'm looking at.

Pietermaritzburg is still broken.
I'm afraid the cable breakage hasn't been repaired yet. Until it is fully restored service will still be problematic in the East.

I am surprised Afrihost uses Telkom for the links from JHB to DBN, thought maybe Neotel, DFA or Broaband Infraco would have come up rather than Telkom.
Don't you guys have redundancy?

It's a bit difficult to have redundancy in infrastructure that we neither own nor operate. We can have as much redundancy in place as possible, but if there's a break on the network operators side there will be a deterioration of service.

Getting 500kbit DL ATM due to the fiber break. This takes me back to when I had a 512kbit line. *shudder*

Still seeing issues in and around the Durban area with the fibre issue.
We're working closely with our upstream guys to get this patched up ASAP. I'll post feedback here as soon as it's available to me
