I still think it is a line problem and not exchange congestion as I still get good throughput.

Think something faulty on your line pal. I would probably now ask AG to log that fault for you. Your line speed seems okayish, as you can still do certain things, so something somewhere is acting up badly.

I did mention congestion earlier to Jonatan as well. So will be interesting to see if he can ping again tomorrow morning and then see,That definitely indicates huge exchange congestion.
How many internal LAN devices do you have and what models? Run the same tests to each device as well before concluding congestion, and remove everything but the modem if you have more than one device. Also remove the DSL filter. My gut says this is an internal LAN issue if speeds are OK but latency is impacted. If that congestion happened on the Telkom hop or the ISP side you'd see major issues browsing and downloading as well. Sounds like a router firmware or hardware problem, or a firewall issue. Test from another device (PC or phone) to isolate and be sure.
PS, only trying to help here. Does not look ISP related and it's too early to determine a congestion problem until you rule the rest out...

Agreed that it isn't ISP related. I have posted pings from a phone, a laptop and both desktops on this thread. I have also tried using my old modem, same results (I only swapped the old one out due to poor WiFi performance, 802.11g) using only LAN.
I have currently 2 Desktops, 1 laptop and 3 phones connected, all the other devices I switched off. There were no problems this morning or any time before that with the exception of yesterday evening. Any pings to router are fine, LAN is <1ms and WiFi 1-2ms.

Okay, I swapped back to the 2nd old router I had (found it in a drawer) it seems to be working fine.
Going to swap back to the other router and see if the problem maybe magically fixed itself. I can't really use this router as it doesn't have any WiFi support, maid cracked off the antenna.
(This PC is the only device on its network. So might start turning off random devices if the main router doesn't resolve the problem)

And worked for a little bit, managed to get 50kB/s download on a 10Mbps line. Then back to time outs.
Going to swap back to the router that worked for a bit and let a torrent run for a while and see what happens.
EDIT: Forgot to check for noise on the line, but: picked up phone, was a slight high pitched sound in the background, could be the phone itself. Using the upstairs phone the telephone line randomly turns off and on, same symptom as the last time my line was down. So the light that says the phone is on turns off and on. It's supposed to stay on permanently.
The router that was working earlier is allowing torrents to fly though, getting good speeds.
I think the DSL router can handle line errors better.
EDIT2: Found out that this router can make a log, maybe it can help.
(EDIT PIC, sorry that seems to be my IP, removing it and going to reupload without it - Thanks Mickey)
Looking for other things like line errors, haven't worked with this menu for a good 5 years +
EDIT4: Seems to be working perfectly. Going to have to see where I packed the WiFi extender to, might be able to use that for WiFi while using this router.

I am going to keep it running, anyone know how to set up a netgear WN2000RPT as a WiFi Device, so that it receives it through an ethernet cable? I used to have it set up as a repeater.
EDIT: Plug and paly it seems.
EDIT2: So if I daisy chain LAN cables torrents work, but via WiFi of the extender, not. This is strange. Going to see if any latency games work.
EDIT3: And the latency affected games work fine over WiFi. Just going to go get a new router this week, should solve it I think. And torrents have started working now. (on WiFi). I think maybe the router had enough of too many devices (when everyone is home it's 15-20 devices).

Reply from 155.239.255.250: bytes=32 time=263ms TTL=63EDIT Might have found the cause. It was an errant phone using both e-mail and facebook, the e-mail was trying to resend a failed e-mail constantly and facebook was uploading/downloading. Moment I click save the ping spikes -.-
Most definitely that device, moment I turn off it's WiFi connection everything is stable.
EDIT hopefully final. Went back to the pace router, everything is good. Back to 20ms to bras.afrihost.com. Was the rogue android device I missed when turning off all the WiFi devices.
EDIT I can log into WoW, Smite, LoL, HotS, etc. which I couldn't do before. Thanks for the help everyone. First rogue device I've ever had on my network

So, again facebook, gmail and my vps server is slow. Connect via Webafrica backup account and everything is instant. On Afrihost pings seem fine, it's just getting the actual content which is frustratingly slow.
