If I do a scan, it shows my machine but I can't connect to it. I've allowed for sharing but still won't let me in
Maybe your firewall's blocking it?

Oh, add it as server, not FTP server.
So for my version of ES File Explorer on a phone:
menu (top left) > Network > LAN
the three dots on the top right > New
Domain: leave blank
Server: the IP, e.g. 192.168.1.3 (you can get this off the PC's ipconfig via cmd, the IPv4 address)
User: WindowsUsername (the one you log on with)
Password: WindowsPassword (the one associated with the one above)
and then display as: whatWouldYouLikeToCallIt
OK
now just click on the icon that popped up.
So don't treat it as an FTP server, just a "server".
Thanks guys will try later.

A question to the AH reps, I have my external plugged into my pc and have the Plex server installed on pc and fire tv. Does this use data if played locally off the drive?
Thanks
When you say internal one, what do you mean? One supplied by Plex? No, if you want to be double safe just make sure the IP the FireTV is getting the data from is the internal one.

Yep, Plex should give you an adress of 169.1.x.x since that was your router's IP.When you say internal one, what do you mean? One supplied by Plex?
Nope![]()
Only traffic that is sent/ received via your WAN interface on the router counts towards traffic. The traffic you're describing here is run via WLAN/ LAN.
I have in the Plex server yes a 169. Ip on the fire tvYep, Plex should give you an adress of 169.1.x.x since that was your router's IP.
Okay so just to conclude.
My setup is this
Fire Tv connected to router via Lan. Pc connected via WiFi running the plex server, and then the Plex app on the fire tv.
The Plex app server is 169.1.1.4 Port 32400
Is this the correct setup and shouldn't incur any data usage if played locally via external?

Ok great, thanksAs long as the data you're transferring is within your network you'll be fine.
If you start streaming content from outside of your network is when it'll start counting towards your monthly DSL.

This may be caused by:
The account has no permissions?
Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure I've done that. Sorted, school boy error lolOn the desktop, share the folder with your movies in it.
Properties of the folder > sharing (the tab on the top) > Share > Enter: Everyone > Share button
