That's very strange... Could you try Pinging one of the Google webpages?

All seems OK again. Tried using both Afrihost & Google DNS:

Browsing has been slow all day for me :/ even using unodns instead, reddit and imgur have been awful to use!

Latency doesnt' seem to be an issue but throughput is atrocious, speedtests don't reflect that tho.

So I want to get adsl. I see the Previous tenant already had a telephone line installed. So I just need to get Telkom to install/activate the phone line ( and send a techie to my home I guess?) and make sure I can get adsl, then I sign up for the Afrihost Uncapped Premium bundle , buy a modem, and they'll activate adsl line and I'm good to go? :D

You could also do a self install which doesn't require a technician to do the work. :)
If you call Telkom they will be able to tell if the telephone for your address is active.

Ah thanks. It probably won't be active, would they then be able to activate it from their side without having to send a tech?

The technician will have to test your voice line. The DSL part can be done remotely. :(

Yes, but line installation will still be charged for (for the voice line part) as there is no way to avoid this for new customers. Think of it as an account activation fee.

Sign up for a voice package and installation is free. Usual trick is sign up for "Closer 1" and cancel after the first month.

Yes and no. They made me wait 3 months before I could downgrade the package to voice + DSL before I could move the DSL portion to Afrihost.

anybody experiencing slowness tonight in the Cape? Youtube and Netflix which never buffered before, now buffering like crazy

I signed up for the Closer1 and didn't mention ADSL, they installed for free and then I did ADSL self-install. It was a while ago though.

Hey guys

Running through a few posts now - the thread has been quite busy, sorry if I miss something.
If there's anything urgent - drop me a PM :)
