Tried a new router which I have as back up - exact same problem.
2nd hop has extremely high latency (1000+ ms)
3rd hope always timing out.
4th hop onwards 1000+ms
WTF?!
Same results on my vox account.Have you tried a webafrica trial account?
I think it is exchange/line related though. If you pick up your phone, do you hear any noise?
Same results on my vox account.
Just got off the phone with Telkom - apparently they are working on a technical fault in my area.
I really hope this is the upgrade that was supposed to happen by 16 October.
Sick of thia kark.
It's much better now than it was this morning or last night.
Afriman - you still around?
Something strange is happening:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 726 kbps (90.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 94 kbps (11.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 1985 ms

Looks about the same with my vox account - so something up with my line or exchange. Any way to find out?
Network was pretty slow this morning at around 5~6AM. Was there any maintenance being done in the East?
Your exchange probably doesn't support it or is too old.![]()
Same results 5 minutes later. No consistency at all. It is all or nothing.

If you have a link, I'll also test from my line. I assume by file share you mean P2P?
I looked around and most people seemed to believe that the QoS settings only help you when it's too late (as in it only realises the priorities after there have been a lag spike because all available bandwidth was allocated to something else).
I would have tried setting it on my router, but I am having trouble finding the relevant place in my routers setup. It's a Technicolor TG589VN v3, if anyone knows how to set it up on that router.
I really shouldn't be lagging if people are opening youtube videos (esp at this resolution), the video should buffer longer, but it should leave the traffic currently running for gaming alone shouldn't it?
The last time I had similar issues, it turned out I had turned "Business Optimization" on account. When the Afrigreen accounts came out they had this option on by default, which was in turn giving me the same horrible feeling. I have disabled this option a while ago, but there wasn't much of a change. I had assumed this was down to Afrihost network giving trouble, now most of it has been sorted, but I still get latency spikes. I need to get to the bottom of this, because it is really souring my internet experience.

Looks like you're hitting the same network kit, so this would fit classic congestion symptoms![]()

I acknowledge that congestion is a big issue in parts of the country. My line is with Afrihost so I guess it is another plea for help to the AH callcentre next week. I know the drill , answer the question why the modem has been disconnecting so often (yes its me resetting it not random hardware failure), fiddle the plugs in the sockets, bypass the filter, change the filter, check my phone line for sounds of noise or crackle (the audio is crystal clear) switch off the modem, wait a few minutes and try again .... and so on. I have purchased a new router in desperation. I just hope that AH have suggested to Telkom to get this exchange on their to-do list soon because this has been the situation for months if not the whole year... To say that I am frustrated at times is an understatement.
/end rant.
You have an extremely low attenuation yet such a low SNR.
Could you test the YouTube link again and do you know the distance from your exchange? Do you perhaps have another router you can test from?
