Hi guys

Seen a few queries around P2P not being that hot. For those seeing issues with P2P, please paste the following info so we can nail this trend down.

Location
Account type
Business optimisation on/ off if you're on Business Uncapped
Local speedtest
International speedtest
Torrent speed on http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04.3/ubuntu-14.04.3-server-amd64.iso.torrent
HTTP speeds on http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04.3/ubuntu-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
FTP speeds on ftp://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/14.04.3/ubuntu-14.04.3-server-amd64.iso

You obviously don't have to download everything, just let it run for a few mins :)
This should help narrow down issues.

Thanks guys!

I'll test this weekend, but I used to get +/- 30KB on a 4mb line when using your news server.

Odd. How many threads do you have setup?
I generally see our news server saturate my line at home with 5 connections - 10 is the max amount of connections.

Only 1, but like I said I can only test this weekend

You'll probably want to setup more threads than that :)
Your setup should look like this:

news.afrihost.co.za
Port 119
10 connections
No username/ password
No SSL
200 days retention

These tests won't be very meaningful right now because the issues arise in the evening for the most part.

The intention was to test when things weren't looking so hot :)
We need to look at a standard set of results to pinpoint issues.

I have also noticed that in the morning the speeds are normal and reasonably stable but at night they speeds are 90% of the time under 100kbs. Then there are the speed fluctuations as well definitely no consistent speeds in the evening.

Before the switch over I had consistent speeds 24/7.

What is issue in the evening, any clues.

For having a 4 mb business account this sucks feels like I am being shaped.

Doesn't sound great :(
Would you be able to run the tests I mentioned earlier in the thread tonight when you see things degrade a bit?

I will check it tonight and see what speeds I am getting.

Will those tests give you answers for someone like me that is using news servers?

Include your usenet results too :)
I'm personally not seeing any issues on my end, so let's run through a few options and see what's potting here.

This seems to be the case. Looks an awful lot like shaping

We'll need to run tests to check out where things are going wrong - need to pass on a solid set of results to our network team :) Not seeing anything stand out at this stage.

AfrGuy - my speeds have died sometime this morning. Please can you check my port needs to be reset? Must I pm you my number or do you still have it?

Yes please, drop me a PM. My inbox has been nuts lately.
Maybe include a test or two, too - so I can try and pinpoint something.
