UPDATE: 11 November 2015 10:47
We are experiencing slow internet access in areas served by the North IPC (the Northern regions of the country).

There has been a fibre break on the Telkom network affecting the overall capacity and performance of the North IPC. Telkom engineers are on the way to the Fibre break and are expected to be there at 11h00.

We will keep you posted. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sorry about that :(
What area you are in?

I'm afraid there are issues in JHB and surrounds, posted an update around this a few posts up.

Yeah just got the text too.

Just some feedback for you'll. This fibre break has affected both my Afrihost and Web Africa accounts. The only difference is that Afrihost account is unusable but Web Africa account can still browse and download. Latency is just high on Web Africa account.

I'm not sure around who else uses that link, but seems like it's affecting a few ISPs negatively.

aah okay. Seems it's affected Afrihost more than Web Africa. Not sure how it is with other ISP's. Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

Really can't say about other ISPs I'm afraid :( Either way, we're working hard on normalising traffic in the area :)
As soon as updates are available I'll have them posted up here.

UPDATE: 11 November 2015 12:19

The network has been restored on failover links - Your Internet performance should be back to normal.

Telkom is still working on restoring the Fibre break on the primary links. The fire brigade is on site extinguishing the blaze that caused the Fibre break in Germiston.

We will keep you posted. Our sincere apologies again for the inconvenience caused earlier. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Quick newbie general interweb question....

Do you need to have a Telkom line for a fiber connection?
