Afrihost New Network Feedback

Still seeing some high latency on my line. Could you perhaps check if there is congestion on the exchange? I have this really terrible feeling that congestion is causing my issues... :(

Pretty much my issue, high latency caused by congestion. Nothing I can do about it. Hope it's not the case for you.

How do I tell if I am on the "new" Afrihost network, and not the "old" one?

Do Afrihost still block torrent hosts? I notice around 80% of the sites hosting seeder/leecher listings don't respond when I use Afrihost credentials on my ADSL line.

Officially, no. No mention of fibre or 100Mbps speeds on their website. I'm expecting a Telkom FTTH home installation, so hopefully I'll be able to vouch for Afrihost's fibre speeds soon.

There is only the current network. Everyone has been moved over. Torrent and usenet downloads fly for me.

Hi!

All of our ADSL accounts are now running on our brand new DSL network, and have been since late November. :)

I can't think of any reason that you would be having issues with P2P services at the moment, what sort of account are you using at the moment?

I'll try and see if Telkom has any info for me on your Exchange.

Anyone having bad Twitch performance? Can't get a stream to work more then 5 seconds before buffering.

Thank you kindly. You will see from my tracert and speedtest that it is very unstable. I can run 10 tracerts in a row and not one of them will have the same spikes in latency in the same place. Same with Speedtests, one is not like the other. One will have high ping low download speed, the other will have decent ping and low download speeds, then vice versa.

That is why I am suspecting congestion.

Can definitely see that from the test you posted - I would also suspect congestion based on those results :(

So I suppose we should just moan with them until it's resolved? Or do I just bend over and take it like Beckham?

Telkom receive regular reports of congested exchanges and then schedule them for upgrade with the capacity department. Problem is it is very hard to get ETA's for those upgrades as there are so many and this changes as they plan for the future. But I know they do genuinely try to upgrade exchanges as quickly as they can :(

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Before I moved to this house I had congestion on my exchange. Took over 6 months to get resolved... :D :cry:
