EDIT: I really hope this is not a Telkom life fault. I had a similar issue yesterday where I just restarted the router and it worked again.

Afrifella reset my Port yesterday, rebooted and worked fine for me. Maybe AG can do the same and see

Thanks for the port reset. It can now ping bras.afrihost again but the latency is sky high.

If ping is high there it'll indicate issues on the exchange itself. Have you tested the Telkom guest account or a backup ISP to see if the results are replicated there?

Nope, no congestion, pretty sure. Still getting 6Mbps+ on a speedtest. I think it's a line fault.

Also going to swap back to Afrihost after this. At least YouTube still works and Skype calls work with delay/garbled. WhatsApp seems to be fine even though torrents are failing to connect.

EDIT3: Restarting the router so the connection has to be re-established results in the latency dropping enough so that it can be pinged, so I am assuming it is the port at fault here. We had a similar issue with a dead port last time the line died for a couple of weeks, seems they never replaced the port but rather one of the techies managed to "duct-tape" it back into a working shape. Times like these really make me want the reliability of fiber. I might even go out and start walking door to door.

We need to do a bunch more tests to log a fault with Telkom for slow service, this is usually best done via our Lines team as they have the full process that needs to be followed.

No problem browsing/playing YouTube. Anything latency related is a no go though, it all times out. Can't log into steam as the latency is too high, Skype calls have quite a lag, can't log into league/smite/WoW either. My brother finally managed to try out Fractured Space, he had to give up as the lag was too much, people teleporting around (when they shouldn't be).

If latency specific protocols are affected then YouTube should be suffering. In my tests, anything over 100ms extra creates a sub-par experience.
Is the experience the same using your Web Africa account though? That'll conclusively point out a common point of failure.
