Afrihost New Network Feedback

Hi,
Could an Afrihost rep please assist me. I have a 200GB capped account with AH+ activated on it. I had 13GB+13GB rolled over from last month. It's being used in this order:
1. Feb data rollover
2. March data
3. March data AH+
4 Feb data AH+ rollover

Would it not make more sense if the AH+ rollover from last month was used before the current months regular and plus data?

Pls

Hi! :)

Your data links should be used from the oldest link to the newest link. If you PM me your details, I can check what is going on.

This contradicts what the support agent I spoke to said. Instead of manually fixing just my account, could you please have all support staff caught up with the new service policies so everyone can have their usage recorded correctly?

Would appreciate it,
Thanks

I'm pretty sure your usage is being recorded correctly, it is just a matter of which links are being used. The oldest active links being used first has been the standard policy since I've worked at Afrihost.

How did you check which links are being used?

By link I will assume you mean to say allocation. Let me try and sum it up for you. My AH+ Rollover data is getting used last, if this is not correct, please report this to your devs. If the support rep I spoke to did his job, then this would be the 3rd time they are receiving this report and not doing anything about it.

Did anyone find that MyBroadband speed test give time out errors?

Still perfect speed. :)

Hi,

I have an MTN sim that came with the zest deal a while back, which came with 1gb mobile data a month for a year. I cancelled the package after the year but was wondering if i can still use the same sim to buy prepaid mobile data? If so how do i get the number of the sim to buy the data for , i am unable to use any MMI codes as they all fail, i assume because the sim is data only?

I spoke to a Telkom tech today, he says they're decommissioning the local DSLAM and we'll be connected to the new MSAN across the road. Is there a way to confirm? Our speeds and pings are dreadful in the evening, pings often sitting between 1000 and 2000ms.

I can check that out for you. Just drop me a PM. If you've already PM'd AfriGuy, then I'll follow up with him :)

If the SIM was fully cancelled it's pretty much just plastic now, we won't be able to reassign the MSISDN number or a new one. You'll have to either order a SIM from us or just buy an MTN prepaid from any retailer and then opt-in for prepaid data.

Hard to check because it may not be the same Openserv department that handles our faults. Can't hurt to ask though.

Drop me a PM and I'll ask the question for you :)

I have logged a ticket with Afrihost Support. I'd prefer to keep all communication either public or via the correct support channel.

Just pop a mail to your dev team team and ask them if the rollover data on AH+ is designed to be used last, or if it's an oversight on their part.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure how we can check your specific case without having your specific details. We need a case study to determine if there are any errors on the system. I'd rather not exchange that info in public though. You're welcome to give me the last ticket reference and then I'll use that via the correct channels.

AfriMan any change to existing DSL packages in terms of pricing. Also any new products being added or discussed for 2016?

Afrihost first impressions from a business perspective

We haven't even been on Afrihost for 24 hours and I am already regretting it.

1 I registered a account and immediately after I registered I applied for a static IP address , the prompts said that it will take 48 hours to enable and we will be contacted by afrihost, didn't hear anything back for a week, normally I would have expected a email address with the Address.

2 Opened a ticket on the 01/03/2016 to esquire about the static IP , and only got a response back on 10/03/2016 (HBN-711-65319) static that it is active.

3 When we decided to do the roll over , last night, I noticed static IP wasnt enabled?

4 Phoned your DSL Support department , where they technician initially said I never activated it, but quickly changed his mind and said it wasn't activated on your side and said he will activate it.

5 He could not give me a exact address and instead gave me two possible addresses

6 About 6 hours later, it disappeared, and stopped working

7 Phoned your help desk this morning and they said that it is working and quoted 4 gigs was downloaded from it, my server and IP Cop has a huge different number, meaning the address was mapped to some one els , which makes sense because if I disconnect my modem and ping it I still get a response (up until 9).

8 They couldn't help me any further unless I send them screenshots of my configuration to [email protected] which I am reluctant to do as it takes 9 days to get a reply from there (see 2 )

9 Miraculously after the telephone call my static IP address started working again.

Afrihost my first impressions really isn't good.

Edit: PS I really dont want to use Dyndns as a failover for security reasons, and in my decade and a half in IT, I never had to do this for a company on a business package who is paying for a static IP.

:(

I see that you did request a static IP on the 3rd of March, usually you should have the static IP allocated and working within a few hours of requesting it from your ClientZone. You should have received a mail with the Static IP details, the Static IP information should also be in your ClientZone under your Business Uncapped DSL details.

Is your Static IP functioning 100% correctly at the moment?

EDIT: For a fail-over you should be able to use the first part of your ADSL username with the @afrihost.co.za replaced by .ip.afrihost.co.za if that helps at all.

I don't think we can expect any changes in pricing soon.

There are still one or two interesting things planned for this year. ;)
