AfriTeam,

Why is there a variation of 10-20ms in latency when using an account with Static IP vs Not.

Using the Static IP will add some extra latency as they traffic has to route through the servers that handle the Static IPs and NAT for the Static IP.

:(

I see that you did request a static IP on the 3rd of March, usually you should have the static IP allocated and working within a few hours of requesting it from your ClientZone. You should have received a mail with the Static IP details, the Static IP information should also be in your ClientZone under your Business Uncapped DSL details.

Is your Static IP functioning 100% correctly at the moment?

EDIT: For a fail-over you should be able to use the first part of your ADSL username with the @afrihost.co.za replaced by .ip.afrihost.co.za if that helps at all.

It is for the moment, I will monitor it today, and will use the .ip.afrihost.co.za , that is a nice a feature BTW :)

Can you send me some more information on Business Assist , more specifically what it slows down, if its just torrents (Or P2P in general) I would like to enable it :)

The Business Optimization is basically a form of shaping that you can enable and disable at any time from your ClientZone. The Business Optimization will shape any P2P and HTTP downloads on your connection. This is primarily aimed for use by smaller companies that don't have the expertise or time to setup a proper firewall to stop P2P and HTTP downloads. :)

Hi Afriman, could you kindly check your PM's when you get a chance?, I might have a new potential business customer for you :D

Where can I get some information on static IPSs provided by Afrihost?

We are experiencing low or intermittent connectivity on our ADSL Capped account. Especially international traffic.

Intermittent incoming email, no outgoing email, FTP and Teamviewer not working. The office is in northern Pretoria.

Anybody else having similar problems?

Afripeeps, can you help please?

ETA: I have logged ticket PGB-138-23236, but the helpdesk folk were not a lot of help.

Hi!

You can activate your Static IP from your ClientZone, under your Business Uncapped account. The Static IPs use NAT'ing to ensure that your Static IP traffic reached your modem. So you won't need any specific hardware for it. :)

If you have any questions, please let me know! :)

I'm not seeing any issues with your line or your account. Which DNS servers is your modem pulling at the moment?

Are static IPs only available on Business Uncapped? Not capped or other?

Could you maybe drop an interest request to have it considered on other products?

It's been a consideration for a while, but it's still seen as primarily a business requirement/ feature.
Have you looked at a dynamic DNS setup though? It's something that I run at home and it works in exactly the same way.

I essentially have a script polling my public IP for any changes. If my IP does change, it'll update an A Name with that IP :)
PM me and I'll happily share my setup with you.

Have been doing this since Cloudflare became a thing. A static IP would just make certain services much easier to manage. I appreciate the offer though.

Any specific examples you have in mind? I'm always up for a challenge :)
