Afrihost New Network Feedback

Ran the "fix my line" tool in ClientZone, line was reset and all was well for about 10 minutes...

Now back to NOT being able to even connect to 1 seed out of 1500.
THIS is a clear indication of ALL AH accounts being placed under the dynamic shaping policy (same as normal uncapped accounts).

FYI, AH... "contention" is a direct result of over-selling! ie. "You once again do not have enough capacity" - NEW NETWORK, SAME MANAGEMENT AND POLICY... SAME EXACT RESULT

If there was shaping - and there definitely isn't - it wouldn't stop you from connecting to seeds.

Are the trackers up to date for the torrent?

Facebook, Twitter and gmail SO SLOW. Unable to connect to my VPS server. Really frustrating.

Yip same thing here, slow.
Latency also seems higher than normal.
so is the network starting to fall apart?
We will be spun some story tomorrow I guess.

Are you using the default Afrihost DNS?

Where there any other sites that were slow? How were your downloads?

Well this is not the case on Business Uncapped.

Would you mind letting our Critical Care know about the strange performance drop-outs that happen on your account, there is something very weird going on.

Hey AfriPerson - any chance you can try see how far Telkom is in sorting out my absolutely dead adsl? I will pm you my number and fault reference if you are willing to assist.
AfriGenie can I pm you?

Hi!

You're more than welcome to PM me, and I'll see what I can do! :)

It makes no difference if I use Afrihost DNS or Google DNS, (Google DNS actually better than Afrihost's)

Facebook - Super Slow to load
Gmail - Takes ages to access via POP & IMAP
Sipgate.de - Dropped connections and breaking up
Skype - Can't stay connected for longer than 30 seconds
plycoco.de - randomly no connection to site
Torrents - extremely slow, never passes 10KB/s
YouTube - A mixed bag, one minute I get line speed, the next nothing plays.

This is across all 10 of my DSL lines, switching to Mweb and all the above goes away.

Something is very wrong with International traffic, it has been like this for a few days already.

Speedtest's and Trace Routes look normal to me.

EDIT:

I thought Durban goes via Mtunzini?

According to this, International Traffic is going DBN -> JHB -> CPT -> London??

Facebook is now dead in the water

EDIT:
Gmail dead via POP/IMAP now, as well....

I read your post again, you can't locally Cache Skype Traffic

Looks like the team have picked up a problem and are investigating. Let's give them a chance to work their miracles and hopefully this will be back to normal shortly :)

To the people complaining about torrent speeds on the business uncapped packages - you did notice on the product page that it states that that bandwidth priority is given to "business" traffic?

I'm willing to put money on the fact that AH doesn't consider P2P torrent traffic to be business traffic - so it's no wonder that other protocols are getting prioritised over your torrent traffic.
Hi AfriMan. Can you tell me if AH is priorising traffic on the Business Accounts? Would just like clarification.

International performance in the South should be perfect though. Can you run some tests I can look at?

Hi Afrihost,

We are experiencing some issues here in KZN the company I work for uses office 365 for email , it appears that it is timing our a lot and acting very erratically, also experiencing, Aliexpress and other international sites are almost inaccessible, we have also had reports of slowness when vpning to our office from JHB.

Sounds like the issue is when accessing international sites not locally cached. We'll have to report this and see what our technical guys can tell us :(

I showed AGuy the same issue, he just shrugged it off,

The ROUTER/EXIT node in cape town is damaged or congested.

Get it replaced.

Please give me the ticket reference so I can refer to Critical Care. Once you working with them, please channel all queries directly to them until they resolve and officially close the critical care enquiry (unless it's unrelated).

AVS-344-69945, I have already spoken to Oscar.

We shouldn't be shaping Business traffic actively, but if there is congestion on one of our links it could have an experience that feels like shaping :(
