Afrihost call centre say to use news1.afrihost, not news.afrihost as their webpage still states.

I'll try this tonight.

Axxess worked for a bit, but not anymore. My XUsenet 25GB accounts have been depleted :(

If Afrihost don't get together by COB tomorrow, I'll have to cancel and move to someone else until they sort this out.

Does the refund you get mean you cannot rejoin for a pre-determined period? I'm not especially interested in getting the cash back, but if it's there for the taking...
 
I have a couple of questions:

I have experienced the same general issue that news.afrihost.co.za was down due to the move. I tried news.internet.co.za which works intermittently. I have also tried news1.afrihost.co.za which - once again works intermittently. Now I am quite new to news servers and nzb's etc. I have found that some parts of a file just won't download... it grabs everything but 1 rar file - hence the whole thing is unusable - why would that be?
 
Hopefully they'll sort out network stability first...
Just buy a subscription to a premium server. Great speeds, SSL and 1500+ day retention.
 
Astraweb, but they've been quite nippy with the DMCA takedowns, or Newsdemon, my current provider.
 
Hi guys,

Is it just me or is everybody else experiencing slow speeds on all news downloads?

It doesn't matter which news server I use, but it seams to be "locked" or "throttled" down to 1MB?

I have a 5MB line with 4MB uncapped, but cannot DL faster than 1MB?!?!?!

I have tested this with a totally different account and it then runs at full 5MB speeds????

Any idea what is going on?
Is Afrihost now throttling NNTP???

Been using news.afrihost.co.za on and off this month and have been getting goods speeds on my 10Mbps upcapped account. Not usually a heavy downloader, but have got around 100GB so far this month at speeds ranging from 200kBps to 600kBps (or 1600kbps to 4800kbps), not bad, I just let it chug along at night and during the day when I am not using the net. Best retention so far has been 200 days, which is very decent in my opinion.

If you want something to get older stuff, buy one of the prepaid accounts (GigaNews or Usenet), something like 1000GB for $50 and use it when you cannot get your downloads off Afrihost. Have not gone down that route yet as I am a new to nzb's.

news.afrihost.co.za and news1.afrihost.co.za have both been going at 30KB/s for me on a 4Mb line and account
