Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

I haven't switched over yet. First waiting for a reply to the message below:
So if I were to decide to stay on my old account can I also contact [email protected] to tell them to lock/cancel the AfriGreen details?
Regarding my comment about feedback not looking good - was based on feedback from other people in thread. Hence why I am a bit scared to move over and have my existing account locked.

Hi AfriMan. Please can you look at this. ^^

Hey, just chatting with AfriGuy who knows a little bit more about what you're experiencing. Us changing networks will not relieve the congestion on your Telkom exchange so in all likelihood your experience will be the same :(

Fair enough. But as I have also shown a few times that not all th problems I experience are from my exchange. A few times switching to other test accounts yields far better results. And that is why I am scared to move over - I don't need an even crappier experience.

I think I would trust AfriGuy's assessment. Remember that with congestion, you will get periods of better performance, when demand is low, and you can also see some short term improvement when you change accounts and reset your port sync.

Well if I cannot use the product I am paying for, I expect to be added to your new network as a matter of urgency, but it seems like my issues are not considered important.

Holy crap dude. I bet they got thousands of applications for the POC network. Everyone is having issues, so what makes you more important than anyone else. Wait your turn. They will get to you when they get to you - just like everyone else.

So how can we then compare the two without actually using them both?

We'll compile the results at a high level and then determine the feedback. This is why we need a representative mix of clients on both networks, so that essentially the experience is matched for comparison.

Based on the feedback, performance and other factors, we'll make a decision moving forward.

I have been provisioned with AfriGreen details, but probably won't use them. If I don't make use of them would it be possible to instead try the AfriBlue network if/when it becomes active?

I'm not really sure. I think if you're being provisioned for AfriGreen, you probably won't be able to move over to AfriBlue. Things may change when it becomes active and we see how it all pans out.

AH I have switched over to AfriGreen and will do some testing. If it performs worse than my old account - I want my old account back!

Speedtest result from http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/:

Categories tested:

Browsing: Very good. It feels faster than previous, but can't say for sure, previously it was also very good. See comments.

FTP: Top speed. Used ftp://speedtest.tele2.net/ and line speed maxed out.

Skype: Used it just before starting with this post, no problems.

HTTP Downloads: Top speed. Tested with a download from http://www.ubuntu.com/. The download speed fluctuated for about 30 seconds, waves up and down, then settled on max line speed.

Torrents: Tested with a torrent to download Ubuntu, max line speed after a minute or so.

Comments:
During the morning there have been a few times when sites did not load. Resolved after trying again in a few minutes. Other than that, all's cool. I have not yet had a chance to test streaming, Youtube etc, will do so tonight.

5* experience so far. :)

Well AH one thing right off the bat - google play store updates/downloads are still k@k slow.

Feedback #2, 6 hours later

So far this morning overall it feels much the same experience as the original Afrihost account, except that latency might be a little more stable and I am not seeing all those timeouts on ping tests

Currently Apple music doesn't even pretend to start to stream.
YouTube buffering at 144p
Several self initiated reboots and router resets etc.
Vimeo buffers when yesterday the streaming was smooth (personal training screencasts)

Well, I currently use AH to stream F1, and there's an upcoming race at the end of this month.

Afrihost has been iffy, but if you can get past the constant buffering, it was quite watchable.

If AfriGreen is worse, it'll completely ruin it for me, which is why I don't want to take any chances.

Having said that, Vox's 100GB promo is looking very appealing at the moment.

At work right now so can't post decent feeback but what I have so far:

4mb uncapped home
Sunninghill, GP

On the previous network I was not able to stream twitch.tv, even on Mobile. Last night I was able to stream twitch without problem at High. My netflix is now streaming HD from previously being around (what I think is) 480p

Will post updated feedback tonight. Impressed that I can once again stream twitch!

I think there's some reporting issues on your afrihost portal:
Shows the new account with the following info:

511GB
REMAINING

Data Statistics
Total Account Data: 5.00 TB
Data Used: 2.66 GB
Average Daily Usage: 181.76 MB

I just activated the account now and it show's I've used 2.66GB and still have a 5TB remaining?

Just tested normal http download - Windows ISO from microsoft:

395 KB/s - 26.4 MB of 3.4 GB, 2 hours left

Doing a torrent for anime (One Piece) @ +-380KB/s - 9 seeders
