Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Browsing seems fine and youtube is streaming fine too at 1080p. Just downloading that's slow.

Edit* Facebook loading is slow too but that's been the case for the last several days. Was assuming it's just facebook that's having the problem.

Facebook is loading pretty well for me, but this may have been an issue last night and been resolved or sorted itself out somehow. If I can get more info, will give you feedback.

Latency tests this morning improved for me especially London and jitter is down to 2 ms....so far I'm loving Afrigreen

Just to confirm from my earlier post, the team were busy with changes last night which probably caused the disconnects a few people noticed.

At least you know you aren't crazy ;)

Good morning AfriMan

Do you have any feedback on Apple music streaming. I find it impossible to stream during working hours even for a short while and downloading single 5Mb tracks can take up to 10 minutes. As far as I understand, music bandwidth is less demanding than video so it should surely work better than say YouTube? Is this something that could be optimised by the network team?

Are there any changes being rolled out currently, web pages take a while to load as well google chat doesn't load....

EDIT - can't load attachments in gmail as well....

Hi AfriOkes,

If I recall, I was told that the AfriGreen account we are given will be the equivalent to whatever "normal" account you already have. I'm on Business Uncapped (which is unshaped).

This morning, I noticed that my SFTP downloads were going at about half the speed of HTTP downloads from the same server. This is a sure sign that there is port-shaping taking place. Can you please confirm the situation?

Also experienced certain slow international connections, started about 10am and now improving. Mail delivery seemed to be sporadic from Office365. Not sure if this is AfriGreen related or a general issue since my mobile mail (MTN) was also affected.

I'm not aware of a problem with Apple specifically, but it could be that Apple don't allow caching of their content locally (I know they don't allow any caching for their updates). We'll need to see where the traffic is coming from.

In terms of bandwidth, audio is pretty minimal. I'm usually using Simfy all the time and it doesn't even affect my traceroutes.

Business rules are the same, so it's more likely to be the server's ability to serve content. remember, we don't shape by port in any case, we use deep packet inspection to shape by packet signature.

There is a very small chance that anything AfriGreen could have the same issue as the MTN network. The only common factor here would be the source, so that would be my initial reaction :(

Yes, NOT on Business - just wanting to stress the point that we don't shape or firewall ports.

Gotcha, thanks.

In any event, the source is not to blame. I guarantee it can serve far more than the mere 8mbps I am asking of it. Will give AfriGreen the benefit of the doubt for now and try my WebAfrica capped account this afternoon when I have a gap. If that's better, you can always switch me back to my "normal" Afrihost account right?
