I don't mean to derail the thread but, I also wish Afrihost would move their Cloud hosting out of Gallo Manor to Teraco, MTN is a complete disaster....

Yep got an email from some dude from Afrihost that says.

I see your server is quite large so I suggest we create you a new server on our new Hyper V and you reinstall everything and move your data across and we will change your IP
500 clients and about 70 databases.

Hell no!!!

if I am going to do that I will move else where.

  • Browsing is much snappier. WAY better than ever before.
  • Video Streaming is about the same. Works, but tends to have problems at 1080p. (I think that this is due to MTN's Google cache servers being slow, since other cache servers are fine).
  • Latency is far better:
    MwccYwf.png
You can clearly see that the POC is working as it should.
  • Torrents getting ~50KB/s better speeds. Took less time to find connections due to lower latency.
  • FTP DOES NOT WORK!: FTP will not authenticate! Please fix this soon!!!

  • HTTP Downloads are getting ~50KB/s better speeds.

Nice work overall, Afrihost.

Can't update iTunes. P2P works great. Webpages takes a bit long to open some times (that seems to be fixed this morning. Will bring my Game Rig from the office and test the line to see if I can do COD AW or COD4 online. FTP works at full speed.
Will do some Apple Tests tomorrow and Friday. Problem can be with the Apple Servers as well.

Definitely off topic for this thread ;)

We're moving some systems between different technologies to make improvements in our cloud stability. So far, we're seeing better results, and most likely we'll be making bigger changes in the future. We feel the issues we've been facing are more connected to how we've built our environment, rather than MTN's facilities.

Are any of you getting NO internet on the Afrigreen network? Can't even ping Afrihost.com. Client zone sees the connection though when I check via my phone.

That definitely shouldn't be happening. Can you PM me so I can check your logs?

Not updating iTunes is a biggie. Can you drop me a PM so we can use you as a guinea pig to get this sorted?

I'm also in Hilton, but getting way better results. Which area of Hilton are you from?
Also can you check if FTP is working for you?

Hey, can you please PM me so I can look into this. It might be related to geolocation issues or security settings. We should be able to replicate and sort this in a few minutes. Drop me your username and the FTP details and I'll sort that ASAP.

4Mb Business Uncapped, Kloof, Durban

Browsing OK, some images take long to load
Video Streaming YouTube at lowest resolution OK, anything higher buffers
Audio Streaming Apple Music worked at 6am, stopped around 8:20am
Voice Chat Skype lost Skype home page at 8:30am

Download or Upload Speed related issues - Evernote update went OK
Authentication (able to login to connect, time to authenticate) fine
Latency (local and international ping times) Generally good, below 25ms, at the moment high Jitter

Seemed to work well from about 6am. After that degenerated badly, at 8:20am most international services dead slow. Slowly recovering. This has been the same pattern as before with old account.
Will feedback later again

EDIT: Just ran test with other ISP - latency higher 230ms and throughput lower 0.35mbps. Too unstable to conclude but I suspect another bottleneck, Telkom?

PM sent. Thanks :)

4mb uncapped line (6:30 am this morning - weltevredenpark, West rand)

Downloading was full line speed (speedtst.net)
Upload was 0.5

Youtube - 480p streamed fine. Let it buffer for 30 seconds and then watched 5 mins without an issue.
720p buffered constantly.

Latency was bad - 120ms to first (external) hop on traceroute.
No packet loss on pings (8.8.8.8)

Will stream some netflix tonight and see what happens

Hey Guys

We've now also added a feature in ClientZone. Just Click on Connectivity and the AfriGreen DSL Username

Please submit as much info as possible. Like if it's a game, please tell us the title and the platform in the comments section so we can replicate is as close your setup as possible. If you have any other steps to replicate, like FTP details, etc, then that can also help a lot. The main benefit is that we can also collate this data and get a high level picture of what issues exist and cross reference across capped, uncapped and business - so we can make quick improvements as the information comes in.

You're welcome to keep feedback coming here as well, but it will probably have the most benefit through the ClientZone submission. Positive feedback is also great so we know which features are working well and don't need to be changed or tinkered with.

We'll also post any known issues here so we can eliminate those.

i'm assuming if we havent received the email then we not getting a test account ?

Not entirely, it means you're on the list and we'll be releasing the usernames in batches. Not sure when the next batch is scheduled, it will depend on the uptake and the network performance.
