Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Hi

Local peering seems to be bad. ie. connecting to our office VPN which is on MWEB ADSL.
Very poor quality, slow compared to old account.

I've abandoned AfriGreen. Back onto old account.

I couldn't even browse with AG.

Awesome, when ever you guys think it's ready, post in this thread and I'll give it another go.

We definitely think AfriGreen is performing well. Since Telkom found a fibre issue on the IPC, things have been performing exceptionally well. We're still working out any kinks that come along, but these seem to be mostly specialised services.

AfriGenie, do you think it is safe to move all my connections to AfriGreen for now?
Can we expect any more downtime like on Friday and Saturday?

The MTN Network is shot, and the latency is appalling.

I think it should be safe. Great performance at the moment, I don't think we'll see the type of IPC issue we did on Saturday again (at least not for a while). Telkom ran a full diagnostic so any issues would have been picked up.

From my knowledge of this issue, I'm really not entirely convinced that it could be network related. I think we need to get someone assigned to you to work through this and identify all the possible causes. We should have seen some other users with similar symptoms if this were a network issue :(

Can you PM me again with your contact details and I'll have someone call you to troubleshoot directly on this?

On 4Mbit Business Uncapped:

Just received the account today, and trying out now.

Initially could not connect to GMail imap servers, but it is connecting now.

Ping to www.afrihost.com

A few timed out in UK. Managed to complete the following:

Will test more, maybe will improve, but at the current state: practically unusable.

Please test and monitor this. If this continues we'll definitely need to troubleshoot further. My own tests show no issues with Gmail, so we'll need to figure this out with you.

Which DNS are you using? Does this change if you switch to Google DNS?

Got my green login info today.
Have not been using my AH data during this month due to all the issues.
Tested AG and working great!!!
Playing Destiny and watching 1080 youtube at the same time with NO issues!!
Keep it going, looking great at the moment!
20mbps capped account.

Sounds good :)

Just curious, can we assume the reason everything is normal again is, because the kids are back to school?
I mean, even my standard afrihost(MTN) is performing well again. Now we will never truly know which network performed best, because of the school holiday that had the whole network under pressure, suddenly Afrigreen is performing normal as well, timing is dodge.

The AfriGreen issue was definitely a technical problem that had to be specifically addresses. I would imagine that contention on the regular MTN network would be affected by kids going back to school. We'd definitely see some services like YouTube HD drop off, but I couldn't say to what extent.

The two are definitely not related :)

Does anyone know of a tool(free) that can do some comprehensive testing, ping, jitter, packet loss, streaming etc..?

10 mb Capped 100gb account.
Home user.
Coming in from Roodepoort, JHB.

Comments:
For me, the afrigreen account is much better then the old one.
All in all I can now at least watch YouTube and Facebook videos, but also download and steam nicely via my MediaBox (KODI).

The latency is brilliant with no lag at all to my work via VPN.

I was getting seriously frustrated because even my email attachments, which were just doc and image files, had problems downloading... Service delivery from my side was starting to be effected because of slow connectivity.

BUT, looks like Afrihost is getting it back on track!
Good work guys!

It says your ISP is "Global Internet Access"? It should say "Afrihost"

@ afriman Have you guys taken note of the pending Windows 10 upgrades that are going to be done in the not too distant future? Do you think that the AG network will be ready to handle this without a hitch? ( Think its due on the 29th of July?)

Haven't been speedtesting religiously, but my gut feel yesterday was that the network is looking pretty spiffy.

I wondered about that. I'm guessing that some of our IPs are still being updated (unless that's not our network, which would make me sad).

@duppiedp Please drop me a PM with your IP address and location. Let's see if we can fix that from our side :)

Defininitely, we're all geared up for it. It's hard to say that we're not going to see any effect, but we'll adjust as we go. Since it will be download only (as I understand) we'll do as much pre-prep as we can to make sure things run as smoothly as possibly.

Hopefully people will also run these downloads overnight, cos it's bound to eat up their bandwidth.

It's also important to note that this is a proof of concept network, so we're eager to put it under as much stress as possible for end to end testing.

AfriGreen was awesome yesterday and last night.

Here's to another great day on it... :)

+1

Tested General browsing, Youtube streaming on 720p, torrent and direct downloads, even Plex Media Server channels all looking good !
Sure hope it continues this way. :D
