Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Morning Everyone

Just trying to comb through the comments from the weekend, seems like a few people had connection problems. I'm not sure I can reply to every post, so please log a ClientZone issue for anything that still persists or grab me via PM if I missed any important issues that need to be addressed.

Hi,

Moved back to vanilla account. Couldn't bare the slow speeds anymore.

Still getting problems, but they are not as severe as with the AfriGreen account. Saw a great improvement in switching back.

Regards,
Leon

No. Just curious if you guys are paying to test.

Would be madness if you did.

Everyone is getting their normal data allocation made available on their test account, which they can use on either account, so nobody is paying anything additional - if that is what you are asking.

Anywhere specific that you are seeing problems, or just general speeds?

Strange. I streamed at 1080p without any issues. I thought i would be seeing worse issues since in PE and having to route via CT. For me has been better than the normal account. Will try test some more and see if i still get packet loss in BF4

Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear that your experience is better :)

Still can't stream YouTube at anything higher than 360p and even then the buffering it's super annoying.

Definitely weird. Can you give us some more details here? Maybe links to the videos you're testing - maybe they're not locally cached :(

I still cannot download torrents...keeps connecting to peers. I tried a few to make sure that the problem wasn't with the torrent itself.
Works fine on my normal Afrihost account but not on my Afrigreen.

That's definitely weird. Tested torrents myself over the weekend, so should be working.

Drop me a link if you can so I can test (you can do it via PM if you prefer)

A question to Afrihost.
Do I have to switch to this test network or can I just stay where I am ?
I ask this because I have never had a problem with AH except a week or 2 ago when I complained to Afriman that they were screwing up my connection to fix others and kudu's to him he admitted that this was the case and within no time all was well again.
Basically what I'm saying is if I stay where I am, will I somehow loose out in the future with a maybe better connection ?
I have 50+50 Capped connection.

You have the choice - it's totally up to you. If you're happy with your current experience, there is no need to move. If you are finding that you're not happy on our regular network, then AfriGreen may be a better alternative. AfriGreen is a proof of concept, so there could be a few wrinkles to iron out. But generally, there is enough feedback on this thread and info for you to make an informed decision :)

AfriGreen, apart from the slightly increased latency, has been awesome thus far.

An absolute pleasure to use.

AfriPeeps, make it stay as thus, and only improve the latency!

Latency should improve immediately when we get Cape Town IPC. We'll also look at how we can improve backhaul routing as we gain more experience with the infrastructure we're using.

Downloaded torrents last night, download speeds were above par ( performance was stellar). Afrigreen seem to be working for me this side.

After reading the thread almost cancelled, but tested Afrigreen, never had a problems since I received my username last week. YouTube and streaming is proper. This used to be a challenge on AH accounts.
