Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Really don't know what is happening here. But I'm downloading and browsing at the moment, definitely seems normal on my side.

Well that doesn't help me.

All I want is internet that works fine and what I pay for. Had more then 6 months of issues with my business account before afrigreen was set up and up until week and a half ago. Afrigreen (minus couple teething issues) was working brilliantly. But for past 1 and half weeks now it's constant issues.

Now if I want to download I can't do any browsing and if I need to browse I can't download anything.

:(

I've done all the tests and all the changes you'll suggested to me. Even through clientzone and nothing has helped unfortunately.

So, steps to troubleshoot when you start experiencing problems:
1 - DON"T CHANGE ANY SETTINGS!
2 - input test account username/password in your router
3 - do the same thing you tried to do earlier
4.1 - no problems? - IT"S YOUR ISP, *** THEM OUT!!
4.2 - problems still? unlikely, traceroute would say if it's your exchange, if it isn't, then it's something on your home network, most likely your pc.

I stand by these steps!

So Kooldaffy was asked to update firmware...to disable all settings (whatever that means)...to turn off QoS...and if nothing works, to read through the router's manual

pretty much sounds like asking the customer to jump through hoops if you ask me...but hey what do I know...my suggestion for troubleshooting was to quickly test with another ISP...and what do you know...step 4.1 is usually correct, and saves the customer a LOT of time.

So you're saying this is NOT a network issue then? Ok, the hundreds of posts with users struggling (yes, I admit there are goods stories in there too) is then just pure coincidence...

I know it's hundreds of posts because I have been keeping an eye on the AH threads since I moved couple of months back.

oh and ps...I'm really not looking for a fight or anything...just so you know :D

Like I said, please read the post and the specific issue that is being reported. I don't think anyone else has reported this same symptom.

We can only do so much from our side. I can't think of anything at a network level that can cause this for an individual user and everything points to a local network configuration.

Troubleshooting requires steps, so by that same definition you're adding some hoops of your own.

I'm simply making suggestions. Logically, there is no way for a single user to experience symptoms on a network, even the POC network has at least 3k people on it at any given moment, so it's very unlikely.

I've read through pretty much all the posts AH related over the last couple of months...like I said I keep up with the current stuff...anyway...I can't actually recall having read anything where the users setup was wrong, come to think of it...

anyway...I'm going home now

cheers vir eers :D

Can it be a local network configuration when I didn't change anything from when it was last working fine and can it be a local network configuration that only affects one ISP? Because as I mentioned web africa account is having no issues.

LOL!!! my steps takes 1 minute, your steps...NOT 1 minute

"read through the router's manual"...that was one of your "suggested steps"

Symptoms means showing the same issues - can download at max speed and not able to browse. Not that the root cause was a line or network issue. I think we've covered that in the conversation pretty much over the day.

That argument works both ways, as I said. While it may not manifest elsewhere, we certainly can't implement a change like that to affect a single user. We would definitely see multiple users reporting this via social media, support or in this thread. So there is a unique factor or combination of factors here that we need to isolate, and I would suspect that these factors are present at the local network level.

What argument? I'm not arguing anything. I'm just asking for advice.

My internet is not working well on one ISP but is fine on another ISP.

I've gone through all your suggestions regarding troubleshooting and that hasn't rectified the problem.

What else is there that I can do?

Are you running through any geo changing DNS, proxy or VPN?
Also, I thought you mentioned a while back you saw issues across multiple ISPs in terms of throughput?

Sorry about that, looks like I got my feathers ruffled by a troll :( We're definitely in agreement that it would be great to figure out why this is happening.

I've changed my DNS settings. And all other changes that Afriman has suggested.

The slow speed at the time was across multiple ISP's but that was only for couple days.

All the testing I've today shows the problem of downloading and being unable to browse only on Afrihost accounts. I've tried both Afrigreen and my normal Afrihost business account.

I've tested on Web africa account today and was able to download and browse simultaneously.

Really good to hear. Is it pretty much working on all services for you?

I mainly use it for download and streaming. It is pretty much the same as the old one. Except in instances where you guys make some changes that affect the network generally, I don't see any difference between Afrigreen and Vox Bolt -on. But I don't game so maybe that is why. I am on a 4meg line. I wish I could report some errors but I can't :)

Will when I am home tonight

Speed test shows 1.4down up and 500up which is bleh even for a 2mb line

I have just had 2 disconnects ingame in 3 minutes on the so called green network
Looks like you are aggresively dropping packets on a business uncapped account :/
And no , I don't torrent at home. I may download , but I use other mechanisms

So what else can I do?

Tried downloading a torrent now. Torrent downloading at 700kbps and I'm able to browse.

So whatever problem I seem to be having is only related to direct downloads where I can't browse and download simultaneously. So far anyway.
