Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Afriman, Afriguy or any of the Afri'people' I've been dealing with. When you'll see this in the morning.

Testing now 10:40pm. I'm able to download at full speed and browse at the same time.

I haven't changed any settings or anything. Just working fine now.

Will test again tomorrow too. Hopefully if you'll made any changes that it's fixed the problem.

Edit*

1:13 am and the same problem is back again. Download running at 700kbps but unable to browse while downloading.

Just activated like half hour ago. If anything changed at all it's latency going thru the roof. 150 ms in a local cpt-cpt test is un****nacceptfuknable. It's usually between 9 and 12 ms. Rest is miserable like always. Since two days Wordpress won't let me edit my blog anymore, must be the bad connection. YT stutters like stupid, it's all very weird. Know what peepels? I guess Afrigreen is nothing but a placebo. :wtf:

Everyone keeps complaining about speed and latency but only a few posts their traceroutes and ping tests. If you want to complain then you should help them resolve the problem. It's quite simple :-)

There are other people who find AG to be fast and enjoyable. Doubt it is a placebo. You have the right to complain and demand better service, but for Pete's sake give AH some info to work with. Post some speedtests or traceroutes so they can try and determine what the problems are. Don't just moan for the sake of moaning. It's a POC - so some tweaking needs to be done to optimize the network.

As far as I know no changes were made around that time or during the day that could affect QoS in that way. Anything else that could have changed?

Thanks so much for posting this. This is a great point - the more information we have, the more we can help and shed light on the issues you report :)

AfriGreen is definitely more than a sugar pill, we're seeing definite improvements in many client's experience and we've increased the number of users on the network steadily to make it as close to real world conditions as possible.

Remember that from cape to cape, you have to route to JHB and back becuase that's where our IPC is. That should only add something in the region of 30ms at best, but possibly up to 60ms max to your ping, depending on the routing taken. 150 seems a little out of range.

Can you post a full traceroute so I can see exactly how this plays out?

Tracing route to bras.afrihost.com [155.239.255.250]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete.

Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 155.239.255.250:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

any idea why i am getting request timed out when pinging bras.afrihost.com

Looking at your trace, doesn't look like you're on an upgraded exchange, so you can run a normal traceroute and the 2nd hop (BRAS) should display normally.

Are you using the default DNS servers for AfriGreen? Sounds like it could be your DNS that isn't responding as quickly as it should be.

Well spotted AfriGenie, no I am forced to to use MyBB user JSheed's VPN IP because I am streaming Netflix over Chromecast
- it would of course help if AfriGreen could set up something similar to reroute just the initial Netflix, Hulu, etc packets to an overseas IP
<<HINT, HINT>>

I have also been forced to set up Static Routing to exclude Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS addresses to spoof Chromecast.

Being blonde here, but how do I copy and paste my tracert results from the DOS screen, or are you guys using another app for tracert ?

Click the title bar, select edit to mark and copy the data you want.

Yeah, we can't really help with spoofing DNS. It's technically naughty :(

You can just do a screenshot if you can't copy and paste. Just upload it to IMGUR or something.

Hmmm, that could definitely have been causing the latency. When Telkom moved my line across to a new MSAN, my connection was unusable for a few days.
Just logged into Clientzone now to report last night's high latency and unusable speeds and just realized we almost on the 20th of the month and I'm almost halfway into my own data and not even close to tapping into the free AfriThanks data yet lmao!

Becoming frustrating! Thanks Telkom!

Any chance AfriThanks data rolling over?:erm:

Not for the moment, but let's hope we might see some more AfriThanks data - no promises though :)
