Well spotted AfriGenie, no I am forced to to use MyBB user JSheed's VPN IP because I am streaming Netflix over Chromecast
- it would of course help if AfriGreen could set up something similar to reroute just the initial Netflix, Hulu, etc packets to an overseas IP
<<HINT, HINT>>

I have also been forced to set up Static Routing to exclude Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS addresses to spoof Chromecast.

Can't you use Unotelly? Easy to setup and doesn't interfere with your routing otherwise...

This is ridiculous it's 10:47am and Afrigreen just went all crazy again this is on a 4mb uncapped account.

This definitely not cool. We shouldn't be seeing this amount of latency at the moment, and not being able to resolve to websites is definitely not good.

What DNS are you using?

As far as I know no changes were made around that time or during the day that could affect QoS in that way. Anything else that could have changed?

Nope. Nothing changed on my side. It worked for a short while after 10pm and then after 1am when I tested again downloading and browsing didn't work.

Tested again right now.

Afrigreen account

Download speed 700kbps but can't browse simultaneously.

AND IT JUST GETS WORSE!

The normal DNS did not change anything on the router or connection settings!

Here is a similar traceroute from Cape Town that we replicated. Could be a little better but mostly normal in terms of latency - nothing like what you are seeing :(

I take it that you're routing through an internet exchange or some kind of secondary device before you go onto Telkom's exchange.

Could you try pinging bras.afrihost.com?

So Afriman. What else can I do?

Edit* As I mentioned yesterday too the inability to browse while downloading only seems to apply to direct downloads. While downloading Torrent doesn't seem to have the same issue.

Your Telkom Exchange is very very congested! (Or something is Maxing out your upload)
No ISP can fix that only Telkom...
Good Luck!

That's not what they have to say just spoke to them and they ran tests and recreated my ports and this is the result after all that!
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4594031868

Have you tested with a WebAfrica 1GB Free account?

Also Telkom denied for over 8 months that my exchange was congested, until one day after months of screaming and shouting and getting ICASA involved they conceded that it was indeed congested.

Just a heads up - we're doing a peer link change on Afrigreen. We may see some downtime an any traffic going over that link, like Google traffic. Should only be brief (as in a few minutes max).

This will ONLY affect traffic over that link.

Really stumped to be honest. The best might be to try to work through your local network to try to isolate when it works and what changes when it doesn't :(

Just tried it few minutes ago. Small files I was downloading. It worked for couple minutes where I was downloading at 700kbps and able to browse and then went back to not being able to browse while downloading.

All within a space of 10 minutes.

And continuing to test showing as not working.

So basically only twice so far last night around 10pm and today just after 2pm I noticed I was able to download and browse simultaneously.

Rest of the time I've been unable to. Whenever I've tested periodically throughout the day.

Tested on web africa account too and not having this issue at all. Full download speed and able to browse, stream and whatever else.

Haven't made any changes or anything to the network.

When visiting this link: http://www.showmax.com/
The website keeps telling me it is not available in my country but when using mobile data it is working, so there must be something wrong with the afrigreen geolocation settings??

Just tested this on a Mobile link and it opened up OK, I'll get our team to check it out :)

EDIT: Coolios, just chatted to the team - we'll reach out to them to have this sorted. Looks like they're seeing the Afrigreen IP range as outside SA. Tested this on Mobile and @afrihost.co.za accounts and working there :)
