Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Yo Afripeeps - I tested this weekend again, if the wifey goes on FB I get massive ping spikes which didn't happen before. As stated before my ping goes from +-50 to 2500+ then back down again after a short while.

Difficult to isolate the issue. It's not when she loads any specific app or anything, it's quite random. Not really a huge issue, just super annoying. It seems like FB takes preference over any other traffic then takes all the bandwidth available for that specific call. Once it fetched the data then it returns to normal, but once another call is made then it spikes again. Not sure if you guys would be able to help with that?

I think we'd need to test with your username and see if we can recreate this. I can say I definitely haven't noticed this myself, but I'll try and test this scenario if I can.

Yo, I am pretty sure I replied to every one of your PMs and told you that this is a display error in ClientZone which the team are in the process of rectifying. When I checked your individual accounts, it clearly shows the correct data available, so that should be the figure to check going forward.

Not sure what inspired the rant here, if you didn't get or understand my last PM, I do apologise. Pretty sure I have all my marbles - or least all the ones I had to start with ;)

Thanks for explanation and sorry for the rant, was uncalled for.

@Afriman: No, its when I stream Netflix, during the stream the quality goes up and down. So it never buffers (luckily) but it does go from 480p down to 240 and then up again. When the streaming is going and I try to play diablo 3 the game latency goes ape. So its not consistently bad but it fluctuates a lot.

This test seems okay. We'll test netflix with the network guys and see if we can recreate this.

YouTube should definitely have been good over the weekend, seems like there were mixed experiences.

What product are you on - line and data?

4mbit line. Uncapped Home. On Afrigreen of course. Notice in my previous image that it spiked to full speed but never stayed there.

Image definitely shows throughput it inconsistent, or at least the traffic flowing through the connection is intermittent :(

Sorry if we missed a message of yours, if that was on my watch - I am truly sorry.

It's really a good idea to mention sites which work well as well as those that are problematic, because we can then benchmark them and ensure that we don't affect their performance when we run any further testing or make changes. That part is totally up to you.

If there is a fault at your exchange, that will introduce some unpredictability, so it's hard to use results without knowing whether they are intermittently skewed by this. Until the AfriGreen network is in the production phase and there are no known anomalies, it would be hard to distinguish network errors from exchange errors, especially on new Telkom exchanges :(
The streaming from the site I was talking about always runs at 3.2 mbps - even during peak periods where there is "congestion".
Downloading from the same site always runs at 3.2 mbps.
P2p pretty much always runs at 320 KB/s - through a vpn routing through uk/france.
So those 3 scenario's have constant decent performance which is why I don't understand this whole situation.
As you say congestion is unpredictable and yet those 3 scenario's pretty much always run predictably well.
Even someone from Telkom can't tell me how that is possible.

I couldn't say - it's a pretty weird one :(

It is indeed.
So may I ask where to from here?
I suppose wait, hope, pray, beg, etc that Telkom sort out my exchange?

I think we need to continue to test. But if you want to drop me a PM, we can try to replicate what you are experiencing, we just need precise steps to replicate your experience.

Yeah at the moment it's fine and is during the day. But I swear, I'm noticing that these weird YouTube speeds seem to happen late at night. Around 10PM onwards. I'll take notice next time and report.

I thought maybe it was my exchange getting busy or something (which has never been an issue) but then when Vimeo and everything else worked fine I knew it couldn't be that.

For sure - the more info and steps you can give us to replicate, the better :)

hard to say, from the article seems more like a strategy that will be implemented than one that is already in place. We haven't been informed of any testing, to my knowledge :(
