This is the elephant in the room. How do we get what we pay for apart from the usual requests to be patient? Afrigreen has reached the limit. The legacy network is borked. It appears Afrihost will move the Afrigreen POC to production, throw more hardware at it, add a bit more capacity and hope for the best. The benefits may be realised initially, however the old problem of too much demand for available supply may very well return. I honestly cannot see this working.

The whole point of the POC implementation was to rule out quirks we've seen on the current network. So this is a step in the right direction for us.
I guess the proof is in the pudding though.

I sincerely hope the "Afrigreen Production" optimism will bare fruit. Something has to give here, we cannot continue like this. The impact on our productivity is massive!

It will, and Afrigreen hasn't been all doom and gloom either :) We've seen a largely positive response to it.
With Afrigreen getting the go ahead to be the network to migrate to should say a lot about it's overall quality.
 
I don't understand, if MTN still owns a portion of AH, how does afrigreen work?

No two ways about it, when Afrigreen worked, it worked extremely well. i was really impressed and i started recommending them again, but as usual whenever i do that, i end up shooting myself in the foot.

I do agree, it has worked really well. And that's the norm we want to stick with when moving to production :)
 
Just wanted to post some clarification around what'll be happening here, I may have confused everyone (including myself)
So the POC portion of Afrigreen (what we're all currently testing) is staying as is. The actual production is essentially a copy paste of the configs and how things have been working, but is new equipment.

The POC was setup with xGbps that cannot be upgraded.

Due to physical limitations on the physical Network Core Equipment we cannot upgrade the POC IPC capacity but we’re very excited that the new Network Core Equipment is being deployed and will soon be ready for use.

We’ll keep Afrigreen running and we’ll migrate it to the new production network over the next few weeks (in October). We’ll be sending out official communications early next week (from Gian, our CEO) with more accurate dates.
Till then, our team will continue running tests on Afrigreen with intentions of making the migrations as smooth as possible.
You can still use your afrihost.co.za ADSL username on the MTN network and we’ll let you know once we’ve migrated Afrigreen to the new network.

We’re very grateful to have had the opportunity to drive demand on the POC as high as possible to simulate conditions in the real world, like if we experience a major loss of IPC capacity. This has been extremely valuable to the team to be able to test scenarios and network policies that will ensure that we provide the best experience we can under difficult conditions.

Again, we’d like to thank everyone for testing, providing feedback and just being part of this awesome new phase of Afrihost’s development as a service provider. We’re honoured that so many have been so diligent in their feedback both here and via ClientZone, you’ve made a huge contribution to the new network!

And what about the p2p and vpn issues?

So are you saying that the issues of the past two days where it was effectively dead form 6PM on was by design to see where the Limit is?
Are we back to normal today and the "constrained network" simulation complete?

In other words, as I am still on my telkom bandwidth, is it safe to switch back to Afrigreen and will Streaming be good again tonight?

We've never been able to guarantee a good experience on a POC. My streaming tests look good now, seems like P2P is mostly affected on Afrigreen at the moment.

If I pause my ADSL account, does the email address tied to it also become disabled? If so, how can I keep it running while I pause it?

If it's an @afrihost.co.za address I'm afraid it will be paused along with the data :(
