Afrihost Slow Uncapped

Super slow here in CT. Local seems a lot quicker. Surely it must be a network problem and not this 60gig limit, although I have done 81gigs this month. Surely AH realise that everyone will duck to mweb, axxess, etc with a 60gig limit?

Well I just peeked over at the MWEB feedback topic (I'm not one to easily jump ship - but a 60GB throttling threshold?). Anyway looks like they're also having slow performance http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?221840-MWEB-Uncapped-Subscribers-Feedback/page17

Quick breakdown of mails from support staff re: this issue...

AH: having telkom re-synch your line on the exchange would also increase the resolve the intermittent connectivity.

Me: I've had Telkom re-sync the line. Still not having much luck. Going to leave it till the morning and see if anything has improved. Good luck. I think you're in for a long night with some of the guys from MyBroadband getting themselves rather worked up over this...

AH: Many thanks for the feedback, :)

Me: Ah, I see you've replied to one of the other users regarding the 60GB performance softcap. That explains a lot. I guess I'll have to wait for the 1st to attain line speeds again. You may want to get Moshe or ask Gian to have that put in the FAQ on the website.

AH: We are currently also working, on resolving the problems that are occuring.

The new month hasnt even started yet, give them a week to sort out their affairs. The bottom line is i want afrihost to be honest with us. They need to run the numbers, and if the numbers say they can only give 60 fast gigs then that fine. In a year that number will jump to 300, and then they can allow everyone to go crazy. But for now we want a clear stated window without excessive shaping.

For now have to swop to capped as I cannot wait a day to download my iMac update for my student tomorrow!

they key issue here is that they need to tell us what our usage limitations are, that way we can adjust our usage habits accordingly (or jump ship)

bullcrap! I Paid R500 for the account, another R500 for phone line and adsl 4meg. and I only get fast 60gb? I'm glad its month to month.

I swear people don't read. It clearly says you will not get capped. edit//sorry, i thought u said you would be capped at 60.

You will still be able to download 100's of gigs, but with the added benefit that the first 60 will be super fast.

This is a good thing. The amount of shaping after the first 60 gigs is still to be determined, but i can assure you competition in the uncapped space will make it as fast as they can viably get it.

And how exactly are you supposed to download "hundreds of Gigs" with people getting speeds between 51-6 kBps?
If you hit 150Gb you will be lucky indeed.

I need to shop around a bit before I jump ship.

Not "to be determined" .. its already happening. And less than 15kb/s after 60gb is pure bs.

U the one who should read properly - I'm talking about FAST internet, that fact that I'm going to throttled after 60gb is not an uncapped account to me. Throttled accounts CAN'T MOVE 100's OF GIGS. mweb don't have this issue afterhours, everyone assumed afrihost operated the same.
I thank afrihost for opening up the market, but maybe this ISP game should be left for the big boys. Telkom will reign supreme in the end. watch this space

Could the Afrihost uncapped users please state what is "slow", what is your speeds like for:
http?
ftp?
Rapidshare?
Torrents?
News servers?

Speeds are still to inconsistent amongst users to be related only to their shaping policies. Thats why i said give them a week or so to iron out the kinks. If speeds stay dodgy long term then we might have to jump ship.

I already apologized, i didnt see the word "fast". It is kinda ironic. :p

Http - 10KB/s
ftp - 6 - 10KB/s
rapidshare - trying to find something to test with
Torrents - Don't do torrents
News - 5 to 10KB/s

Well yes - we don't have much of a choice anyway. You can't cancel an uncapped afriihost account in the last 5 days of the month.
