Projections? Projections is not realtime! So AH is guessing what your usage in the future will be?

I think you are confusing terminology. Realtime refers to protocols. It would be unfair to shape only clients with a 30 day history if others are maxxing their lines in the first week. We also don't want to encourage anyone to cancel their account and sign up a new one every 30 days to bypass shaping. We give you complete grace within the first seven days with no shaping, thereafter we shape based on a projected usage. Obviously, if we don't need to shape, then usage is irrelevant. It also a means to analyse usage patterns over plain totals.

And back down to horrible as ever :(

Please someone from AfriHost tell me in a PM exactly how I am being shaped and why so much?

Also please can we get things unshaped so far as I only download during off hours, hours after 5pm and before 8am... :(

Hey Afriman,

Do you guys apply the same amount of shaping to uploads that you do for downloads?

Thanks

P.s. not to jinx myself, but I have not had any shaping recently?

Slow, slow, slow. Reported this issue on the 24th, still waiting for a fix. I emailed my test results as per the sms I recieved, email was never responded to. Please explain how this can even be considered suoport. This is my current speed:

On a 4MB Business Uncapped accoutn it will take me 3hrs to download the latest Nvidia driver. This is pathetic. Looks like I have to move ISPs again.

This has been the best Afrihost month ever, 204 gigs downloaded. (50 gigs more then I could previously) and YouTube flawless
Keep it up

Pretty disgusting speeds to say the least for this time of the night and on the 2nd last day of the month.

Been very happy with the service and connection, but since Friday I have been slower than a snail on a 10mbps line :(

Hi,

I have 4mb line and have done a similar amount, and indication that my speed is not what it should be. I can barely do 4GB per day, at the beginning of the month it was far higher. My concern is the lack of any Afrihost people on these forums, and the Online Support they offer, is also very basic. My speed issue was escalated but nothing has improved. They sell the Business account with 24/7 priority support, sorry but having an outstanding issue for 5-6 days with no feedback is not priority support, it not even support.

My speed drop seemed to start last week around wednesday. "Glad" to see I am not the only one, as the exchange etc always gets blamed.

Afriman...your quote "we shape based on a projected usage"...Does this mean you monitor WHAT type of protocol the guy uses, and the one he uses the most, get shaped?...or am i misunderstanding you...

I think it means pure usuage. Thats why in the client zone there are those stats stating current useage, daily useage and monthly useage. The last two are projected amounts.

If you dl 10gb a day for 7 days...then they will project a full 300gb for the month and apply shaping accordingly. As you download lesa the projected useage goes down and the shapping applied will be lightened.

That's at least how I think it works...:p

Any network issues?

My line just died...been running smooth as ice the whole die...now dead...Durbanville area.

Well its a new month on the rise so lets see how things go then :)

Cant blame me if alot of data passes through a 10meg line in a short period of time :p
But lets hope that things calm down and I get what I need when I need it in the new month :)

NO downloads till the new month rolls in.

What startles me is that even when I do a speed test i get 2mbps instead of what it should be, in the 8-10mbps region...

At least your line is working...mine just died an hour ago...
Telkom needs to check the exchange...

Line was working so smoothly...and now this...damnit!

Edit: woke up this morning, reset router and fixed. Will chalk this one up to a systems glitch :p at exchange.

Thx to the online chat support guys for being available to help!

Think I just needed to give the pc a break :p

Router might have been getting a bit clogged up with data :D

No, just the total bandwidth used. We do analyze traffic signatures in order to determine what traffic gets shaped and what does not i.e. is it real time (gaming or streaming, for example) or is it peer to peer? We don't store the information in any kind of monitoring or destination tracking file.

We don't touch your uploads, even on the most severe shaping policy.
