Some heavy shaping in CT at present...or is that just me? 25% / 12.5%

Not that I mind really...

Am I right in assuming that when shaping is applied it get's applied across all users? Or all users for a particular area? Since Afrihost does not shape on a user to user bases but rather on network demand I was curious about this...

EDIT: And as I typed this - it went up to 50% / 25%. :D

Per user basis

I don't buy it. May, June and 1st half of July everyone in CPT was shaped to nothing almost continuously. From two weeks back suddenly NO shaping 24/7 - managed to actually get bandwidth approaching the pre MTN and IPC disaster of the last year. Suddenly now back to heavy shaping. Your period of absolutely no shaping and continuous full speed downloads up until a few days ago in CPT really have me wondering to what extent this is really about overall "usage patterns" as opposed to bandwidth cost management.

I agree with you! As soon as someone complimented AH on the lack of shaping bam! It was switched on. I suspect it was switched off to test the mobile package.

Well lucky you :(

Shaped the whole day.

10mbps line and thingsvare crawling at 50kbps :(

Pleaee help

Well...best thing to do is pm one of the Afri's with you details.

If your youtubing and all that is fine...then it is most likely shaping taking place...or something else. Not too clued up on these things. But that yeah, that is pretty dismal for a 10mb line!

Actually not true, we're not moving nearly enough data on beta tests to have any significant impact on IPCs, and in any regard this is not happening in the South. What I do see is that users in the South have started using up the extra capacity that we freed up and are torrenting during peak time. Usage is higher than ever.

Shaping would not affect speedtest, which would fall under realtime services. But dropping me a OM is definitely the way to go :)

Assuming you are referring to downloads here. But please drop me a PM so we can check if you are being shaped, or what else could be affecting your internet experience :(

Hi

Has this also affected the speed of the Business uncapped accounts (I am in Lakeside, Cape Town)? I have noticed a drop is speed in the past week. Even certain sites take a long time to open i.e. the speedtest web site, takes forever to even load the map

It shouldn't. Business accounts and Capped accounts are never shaped, so when demand is heavy, Uncapped accounts are shaped to keep the demand within acceptable limits. Should have no effect on Business speeds at all.

Ok, odd that my speed drop seems to have happened at the same time.

Sweet. Glad that got resolved man.

Was it a simple port reset? Or could you perhaps elaborate on the fix? I'm sure it could help others' as well in troubleshooting similar problems.

The lady said that it seems like my account might have been mixed up in the test as well as the projections were wrong for my account.

The lady was very helpful I must say.

Did not port reset or anything, I guess it was just a mix up in the accounts and projections for data usage :)

Also noticed that there is such a huge variation in downloads at the moment, up and down as well as shaping going up and down :)

Projections? Projections is not realtime! So AH is guessing what your usage in the future will be?
