Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

It's updated all the time :)
The leaderboard is usage clocked up over the last 30 days. How some guys manage almost 2TB still makes me dizzy.

I think doing 100gb on any account, the past few weeks, will make a lot of people dizzy.

Sitting on 95GB since the beginning of the month

I was being sarcastic, with all the shaping and Afrihosts inability to even give us a straight answer.
It's been over 3 weeks and they still don't know what the problem is, on their own network. But don't blame capacity, as they have enough bla bla bla.

I'm really sorry that we've let you down :( What are your current shaping stats?

well on my 4mb account i have managed around 19gb and i haven't downloaded at all due to the dialup speeds.
24/7 shaping for the 9th day today, 18.8 http and 6.25 p2p.

75% and 75%
Not bad.

Torrents were running at about 80-90% last night. I am fine with that.
But what got me the last few days is youtube. Not even able to watch 360p without buffering on my 2meg line. At least daytime I'm at work and don't have anything downloading and as of today, my daughter is employed, so no-one at home. So Facebook will feel better. :)

I mainly download after 20H00.

Don't worry. As I said before, I'm not jumping ship as yet. Will bite the bullet.

HTTP downloads limited to 30kb/s. I do understand that there needs to be some constraints with any home uncapped account, but this is not the service I am paying for.

If this is how it will continue then this will be the last month I am with Afrihost.

Afriguy

Not very happy clients here at all , Afrihost another 3 of my friends cancelled their uncapped account and went over to Telkom.

quick question here guys... Using speedtest.net my download speed fluctuates from under 2 mbps up to 8.5 mbps (I have a 10mbps line). Why would I get such a big fluctuation? This is tested during times when I am supposedly not shaped.

We joined Afrihost the last week of September (Moved from Mweb to Afrihost). I understand why shaping is done and why P2P is shaped, but our shaping only seems to fade from 22:30 - 8:00. It's really inconvenient especially with normal downloads during the day where you quickly need to get a small file here and there.

Before we joined I read many comments where people recommended Afrihost above all the others because they rarely applied shaping, people barely noticed it.

Did we just join at a bad time or what?

I think you did, just rotten luck.
Generally they're quite good and I usually get full line speeds even during peak hours.

There may be an underlying issue here, please PM me your info and I'll run some checks on the account and line.

Shaping has been implemented heavier than what we'd like to see recently, however the recent trends from last night/ today seem to be showing signs of improving :)
If there is an urgent file you need downloaded during peak hours and your account is shaped you can have a look at our Turbocharge option under your ClientZone. This unshapes your account for the next hour. 5 Turbocharges are made available each month for free.

Hi Afriguy.

I can see a definite improvement, and I pray it lasts.
I would say that my line is around 75-80% of what it should be running like; which is good enough for now.

Much better than getting 10% of my line speed!

That's really good news shreez, trust me - I'm hoping it lasts too.
On a side note, our team will also do their best to resolve the current line issues you're experiencing too.

Thanks, really appreciate your assistance.
I'd love to know if the Telkom tech found any issues with my line.

That's what we need to follow up on. From the stats, something isn't 100% on your end...
As soon as the feedback lands on our desks - you'll be the first to know :)
