Our news server does 5 connections max, and our retention is 200 days.

Your get 5 Free turbocharges every month, and thereafter you top up at R29 per topup, which includes different number of sessions depending on your Uncapped speed.

We're sorry that you're experience on Uncapped is not as good as it could be. We have some plans in motion to get everything up and running as smoothly as it has been all year, we definitely won't leave our clients hanging :)

This might be the best reply ever! Plans in motion. Better than anything previously.

Mr AfriMan, care to comment on my previous comment? Youtube unusable on my mobile device, connected to afrihost uncapped on local wifi, where as youtube is better on computer?

YouTube and streaming in general is very dependant on stable and low latency - which you may not be getting on Mobile :( Drop us a comment here and we'll be able to check things out for you :)

As I said, I'm not on a mobile contract, I'm using a mobile device, ie my phone and tablet, on the house wifi. The wifi on the router, which is connected with the afrihost uncapped account. Makes sense? Same account on PC and mobile devices. Same Internet connection.

My problem is slow YouTube on YouTube app, using my cellphone which is connected to the wifi (no cellular data) compared to usable YouTube on computer, on same network.

This could be the device itself, I've seen a few complaints about the YouTube app being slow in general. Personally, I can only ever get 480p to work on my mobile using WiFi - whild 720p streams flawlessly on my laptop...

Maybe try the browser variation of YouTube on your device?

If it's fine on your computer, but not on your phone then there is:

a) something wrong with your phone.
b)something wrong with your local network.

Youtube is usually pretty *** on my phone even on wi-fi.

Problem is it was working fine earlier, so I was wondering whether using the app might see it as shapable, another port or something. I'll try another router, but it was working, which is the frustrating part.

Last night around 8, I managed to view 360p youtube vids without buffering on my 2mb line. So not too bad.

Shaping was still 50/50 according to clientzone, but torrents were running @ about 90%.

Now that is extremely good news, can finally relax a bit now. Please give us some time lines when you can. :)

Then we can go back from :wtf::cry: Afrihost to :)

I'll have a look at it this weekend, and try to account for as many network problems as possible. Had it running better earlier though. Which is the sad part. Definite deterioration.

I don't think we can post timelines on this yet, as soon as we know you'll be the first guys to know :D

I remember a month or 2 ago when this Afrihost thread would grow barely a page a day now it's like 10 :/

Been thinking, the problem with your shaping system is that you get penalized more for downloading a lot at the beginning of the month than at the end. For example if you have something big to download once off (like a 50GB GTA5) and you do it at the beginning your projected usage falsely skyrockets but if you wait and download it at the end of the month the impact is not so large... eventually enough people will be thinking this way and leaving the biggest downloads for the last week and make your network particularly snailish at that time of the month.

We've made sure that our shaping rules are correct.
I know it's not ideal at the moment, but we are making plans to have this sorted out :)

Well in spite of my local infrastructure issues, I've been unshaped almost a week now. Looking good Afri...looking really good.

Now just badger Telkom into fixing Durbanville and we will be all good :D

Really good to hear!!
If your line is with us we can get a fault logged for you, what's happening in Durbanville?

My line is rock solid. The local infrastructure just cannot accommodate all the traffic during peak hours. 17:30 - 23:00 speeds are between 1mb and 2mb. Really useless.

They need to upgrade all the dslams in his place :(

Urgh, that's always painful!
Just lay your own fibre ;)

Was not so much criticizing the shaping rules as I was pointing out the probable unintended consequences that are sure to result.

Hi afriman, so as from yesterday my line is finally with you. My speedtests were better when I got home, showing a solid 8.5mbps... so I went out and came back and tested at 10ish again... WHAM... got three tests showing 1.7 mbps on my 10 mbps line. Tested the line using Clientzone and EVERYTHING as green with good stats... tested this morning again and back up to 8.4 mbps... eish... why the massive fluctuations?
