Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

as I said in the feedback thread, I didn't mind the shaping during working hours or in the early evening ( mon - Fri) but to be shaped like this during "off peak" is taking the piss. 50% shaping policy on p2p and HTTP downloads at 5pm on a Sunday ( and it's still 50%)is pathetic. I know you said your network is under strain but why aren't you getting more capacity?

all ISP's are having similar issues on their uncapped offerings (just check the other Uncapped threads)....Good luck shopping though...i fear you wont find satisfaction anywhere else right now....best to just ride out the storm.

The problem is, I tried with an Afrihost CAPPED account too, and got the same crappy results on Netflix.

10mb line, runs solid at 8.9 in speedtest. But I cant stream a 2.6mb stream withkut breakups. Even after a turbo charge. Cmon. Its 11pm on a sunday. It cant be that busy

Afriguy has said that they have some plans to solve the shaping problem. No specifics though.

I know it's frustrating :(
We have some plans in the pipeline to have everything running smoothly again.

As I said, we have plans in the pipelines to get things back up to level awesome again :)

Got feedback fom Afrihost that the shaping is due to the network load/status then the higher consuming accounts get shaped till the network stabilises. This worries me if the load for instance on a Sunday is so high that they have to engage into shaping

so what have the high end users been downloading for the past 3 weeks while being shaped, because it is half way through the month and i have only managed 16.8Gb

Are you sure it is an Afrihost problem and not an exchange issue?

I watched some Netflix and Hulu last night between 19:00 and 23:00 and apart from one or two buffers on Hulu it was generally good.

That's not quite true. When the shaping started a few weeks ago a couple of us at the office moved to a different ISP straight away.
My NZBs are running at 402kBs right now on a 4mb line.

What ISP is that?

Latencies are pretty solid from our monitoring, so not sure where this issue is.

Please drop me a PM and lets run some test on this :(

To he honest, I am not going to. Read this thread. I am not the only oje with this specific problem. Doubt anyhing on my side is unique....

Please answer our questions wrt the reasons for the network strain.

Is it your users, outside the network or design/capacity related. If any of the latter two, when can we expect visible action?

Or is it something else?
